  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

How long do myxi nodules last?

I'm taking Doughnut back to the specialist on Friday. I can still feel internal lumps, three close together the size of pips but then all sort of merged to the size of a pea. Hard to describe. I also found a lump sort of on the surface. I pulled her fur back and could see it. This was round and hard so thinking it was a nodule! Just wonder how long the lumps take to disappear, so I can relax and not think it is anything else and that the upsetting time is behind me, at least for a while!!

I dont know for sure, but I think that 'new' nodules should not occur after about 2-3 weeks post initial infection. The nodules that do occur can take months to resolve. I have no experience at all of a Rabbit with internal Myxo nodules and I am wondering if Doughnut may actually have another type of Pox Virus ??

But as you have an exceptionally well qualified Exotics Vet I am sure he will have ruled that out.

I think if he is not 100% sure it will be a biopsy next. Maybe the one on the outside will confirm it was myxo though. I've just had a look at photos and it does look very similar to a myxo nodule, it's small hard and round. It's confusing as never dealt with anything like this before. I just have knowledge of digestion and acid reflux :)

I think your experience with the reflux issues is unique and one that I will always remember. Doughnut has taught me a lot and she is such an amazing little bundle of fluff
