New Kit
I want to open a special thread just for this. If you've read my other thread, I talk of this; if you don't have the time, I'll describe it here again.
Lizzy is an extremely maternal creature, so she does that a lot. I just let her, though I wish dearly that I had spayed her when she was younger, but the vets then said it was better that I didn't. I now know this is untrue, and would fight for my choice, but the damage is done, and now she is too old for my risking the operation. So, a day after the nesting I held her, and felt a lump on her stomach, directly under one of her teats. It did not feel like an abscess (which she's also had, but those are easy to get rid of, and happen rarely); it felt hard on touch. This occured suddenly; I am very attentive, and it simply hadn't been there before. I Googled it, and found that some people say this has something to do with hormones, and that it goes away soon. Has anyone experienced anything smiliar before, after a doe nesting?
I have decided to wait a week and see what happens. I have noticed it is getting smaller every two days, so this gives me hope. I don't want to even think tumours. There is only 1 vet who claims to specialise in rabbits around, and I know how this would go, were I to take her. They would charge me for the exam to tell me there is a lump there, which I already know, then extra for taking samples and sending to lab (which could add up to a 1000 pounds, and being disabled and unemployable, I cannot afford that), then tell me that she's old, and advise me against surgery (she's not bleeding old at 6!); it's happened before. Also, these vets are not experienced with rabbits enough for me to trust them, because you would not believe how many times I took my buns there, hoping to be helped, only for them to prescribe the wrong meds that killed them, or they just advised me to euthanise them immediately. I was breaking down there while they were calmly writing their exorbitant checks.
That's why I want to know if anyone's had a similar experience before, because I will not go through the vet nightmare again if I can help it. Every time I took a bun to the vet for something serious, they died. If I just waited, they usually got better (well, usually is a too strong a word. Sometimes they still got worse, but at least they survived for longer than they would have if the vet had prescribed them dog meds, which they had). If there was any compassionate, educated vet available, I would not hesitate, but there really aren't any around here. As I write this, the eurotrash song ''Tragedy'' is playing, and it truly is a tragedy that this is the state of things where I am located.
I'd be grateful for any advice of whether this lump could be related to the nesting/hormones or not.
