  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Likely hood of a hay allergy?

I'm just waiting for home check approval from the RSPCA for a little house bun, 6 years old, had pasturella and a mite infestation on arrival all cleared up now. Been in rescue about 2 months.

Bun has scanning on the back of his neck and they said it's come up since he's been with them, checked by vet and they think it's possibly a reaction to the hay they use.

I was wondering however if it's more likely due to it being in the right placement either a reaction to the more treatment they would of uses or depending on the treatment he received for pasturella a "baytril burn" if he was given Injectable baytril?

I play to enquire a little but more when I pick him up and they scabs don't look too serious for it to be anything nasty I just feel that an allergic reaction presenting as scabs behind his neck in the typical spot on treatment location is abit unlikely

Any thoughts? Obviously I have no pic yet and didn't get a good look but they aren't worried about them

Thanks

dear buzzwizz619,-you sound skeptical,so am I,--one must keep an open mind,-lots of questions here.--bun requires a complete examination,mites,fleas-ears/back side down the spine.,-eyes-teeth,poops,etc-observation..scabs require treatment,too.[bactine/betadine]-.I am not a big believer in rabbits having allegies to grasses[there are exceptions]-could have been dusty/dirty grasses.-- http://www.medirabbit.com sincerely james waller from across the great pond, usa
