The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Rabbit sneezing occasionally and damp nose

Hey all, I brought home a new rabbit on Monday and I have noticed that very quickly he began sneezing now and again, usually when he goes into his litter tray to eat hay. I noticed his nose is a little damp sometimes too. Could it be the type of hay I am using or is it something that I should be concerned about? It hasn't gotten worse but hasn't gone away either. He seems to be in good health apart from this so I am assuming it's the hay, as it's when he's in his litter tray or around his litter tray. The hay I have is Pets At Home Timothy Hay. Perhaps he is sensitive to dusty hay or this stuff is particularly dusty?
Would anyone have any hay recommendations? Ideally in small size as I keep it on top of my wardrobe

What else do you have in the litter tray apart from hay? Was he kept on shavings before at all ? As they aren’t recommended due to the phenols they produce causing respiratory problems.

Some rabbits do sneeze when they have Timothy hay so maybe it's that. Did you get your bunny from PAH,if so you could tell them about it as often their rabbits sneeze. Keep an eye on him as he may need some anti-biotics and the sooner you start on them the better.

Definantly keep an eye on him. If it doesn’t stop I would take him to the vets. My girls had pasturella which a wet nose is one of the tell tell signs.

The others have given you good advice.
While I have had rabbits that were sensitive/allergic to one thing or another, including cleaning products or household bleach. If you use any chemicals to clean your bunny's litterbox, be sure to rinse it very well.
I have also had rabbits with chronic infections who would have benefited with earlier treatment.

If your hay has a lot of dust or small particles, try shaking it in a bag before giving it to your rabbit to remove some of the pollen/dust/small pieces.
If you feed pellets, you may find a lot of fines (pellet dust) at the bottom of the bag and that can cause sneezing too.

May you and your bunny enjoy many years together.

I would get him checked out at a vet. If there is one at that branch of P@H, try there first as they may be aware (or need to be made aware) of any potential outbreak in store - and you may be able to negotiate costs on treatment with the main store. Otherwise, a checkup will do no harm and you can sort out the vaccinations if he is declared well enough.
