Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

birds of prey

I've recently rabbit proofed my garden so that I can let my bunnies outside, being house bunnies this isthe first time they've been out, and they love it! However I live in the country overlooking a farm and am rather worried about my bunnies being attacked by birds of prey! They are Satin rabbits so quite large bunnies. I was wondering whether anyone knows whether my buns are at risk???

Hi

I often see birds of prey flying overhead and I am worried bout my bunnies but so far all is fine. I don't think there is enough room for bird to swoop down in my garden and I think my buns are too big ad quick anyway! If it's a fairly small area you have for them I would think they will be OK, just keep an eye on them all the time, that's wot I do!

Until I got my run made I used to just place loads of cardboard boxes and large plastic piping for Zeus to run into and hide just in case - in the summer I left my backdoor open then he could run in if he wanted. Placing a fake owl/bird of prey statue on a fence/nearby tree may keep others away from your area - problem is all the nice birds will stay away too ;)!

I suppose it was easier for me as I just had Zeus then and it would have had a hard time picking him up ;)!! Athena however is probably small enough to get picked up so that and the new cat our neighbour got prompted me to make a proper run.
