Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Baby lion head wounds

Rabandruby

New Kit
Hi. I'm new to this forum. My 4 week old baby bunnies have scabs on their back and sides. I caught their mum nipping them. She just had another litter. This was all accidental as we thought the 2 adults were female. I have been reading and am wondering if the babies have a skin disease or has the mother been hurting them. Any help would be much appreciated

Are the 4 week old kits eating hay/pellets and drinking water for themselves ?

Can you post a photo of the injuries ?

It sounds as though Mummy Bunny is unable to cope with the demands of Litter 1 now that she has a second litter to care for. So she may nip the Kits from litter 1 if they try to suckle from her.

I assume you have separated the Buck now and he was not with the Doe when she had litter 2 ??
