  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Testosterone testing?

I have a little foster bun with me who was neutered a year ago. However you’d never guess it. Circling, honking, pooomg everywhere, spraying, hyper excited... He’s been returned to the rescue due to failed bonds a few times and I wonder if this behaviour is contributing. So could something have gone wrong with the castration? Or can his testosterone levels be checked? I realise it is spring time and this behaviour is to be expected to some extent but this seems extreme for a bun with no balls! I will of course get the rescue to ask their vet but wondered if anyone has experience of this.

How old is the Bunny ?

Hypersexual behaviour in neutered Rabbits(both Bucks and Does) can be related to adrenal gland hyperplasia

I have had 2 Bucks affected by Adrenal gland disease, Brian being one of them

http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/s...-Post-29-Long-Sorry-(&highlight=brian+implant

They were both treated with a hormone implant called Suprelorin ( deslorelin acetate).

It has to be prescribed off licence via the Veterinary prescribing cascade

https://www.bsava.com/Resources/Veterinary-resources/Medicines-Guide/Prescribing-cascade

The implants worked well for both Bucks. But for one they eventually ceased to be of benefit and he also went on to develop other symptoms. Sadly at PM examination it was found that the type of adrenal tumour he had was metastatic (the type that spreads to/from other organs). This is rare as most adrenal gland tumours are benign.
