Would a rabbit eat a bit of a sewing needle?

I've just started needle felting and on Monday snapped the needle. I made sure I picked up the tip that snapped and placed it carefully on the TV stand.

Unfortunately I noticed tonight it has disappeared! The main needle is there but the thin barbed tip is missing. It's about 1-2cm long.

I'm trying not to freak out, but can't find it anywhere on the floor. OH hasn't moved it either.

Would a bunny eat a piece of sharp metal if it fell on the floor? Always worried it could've stuck in a foot!!!

Both buns are acting normal. I'm just worrying....

I dont think Pip would eat it. She's never eaten anything odd. But Archie is a chewer.!!!!

dear mervinius,--doubtful,try dragging a magnet around, with shoes on,-..with a rabbit-they lack muscles-to vomite-,besides what goes in must go all the way though..rabbits are consummate chewers, its their teeth must be keep at bay..--keep a watchful eye on their behavior, just in case.sincerely james waller from across the great pond, the other kent wa.st.usa

I'm with Jewaller in how to potentially find the missing tiip. Bit I would suggest that if it was consumed, it may not necessarily pass out. I know it's not what you want to har, an like you, I'd be freaking out. But objects can get trapped. The only certain way of knowing if those gorgeous wee nethies of yours have swallowed, is an x-ray as the item would show up clearly. But obviously there's expense.
I'd go with the magnet option. Check where you were sitting, clothes and a good search of the surrounding area.
I hope you find it. x

What a worry! I would strongly suspect that even Archie would not eat this, but I can understand your concern. I would think that it's more likely to have got pushed on to the floor and so a good search would be my first task. Have you hoovered the area since? Could it have got stuck on to the soles of one of your shoes/slippers?

What makes it so difficult is that it could be almost anywhere and unless you find it you are going to fear the worst.

I very much doubt that Archie would have eaten this.

I did once board a rabbit who had a sewing needle embedded in it's fur though so might be worth checking them both over in case it's got dragged underneath them?

It's more likely to be embedded in the carpet though.

Thanks everyone. It can't be stuck in the carpet unfortunately, because we have laminate. I'm off today, so operation search for needle and clean the house is about to commence.

Buns are acting totally normal and zooming around my bedroom at the moment

Perhaps it’s in a groove in the laminate? Or rolled under your TV unit? I hope you find it but I think it’s unlikely they would have eaten it.

Just searched everywhere can't find it.

Checked slippers. Hoovered every inch of the room including under the TV unit. Shook out rug and blankets. Totally cleaned the buns pen too

Even checked through the Hoover dust. Lol

Both buns "helped" during the cleaning of course.

Oh even checked in the dishwasher filter in case it got stuck to a cup. Hahaha.

I'm sure they haven't eaten it and I hope if it was stuck in a foot they be limping so I'd spot it.

They won't let me search their love furry coats. I'll try giving them secret strokes when they are distracted by treats
