Did anyone see GMTV this morning?

SOAD

Wise Old Thumper
Hiya,

Did anyone see GMTV this morning? I was half asleep when it was on, but I believe there was something about a lady with 25 buns kept in horrific conditions and something about a law change. Did anyone else see this as I would of loved to know what it was about?

Cheers me dears.

Hi I've not heard about that? I didn't realise they did that, tell me more?

Each rspca centre is a seperate charity that uses the rspca name. They each have their own policies on euthanisa etc. there are a few centres that have some policies on euthanising bunnies I don't agree on but equally there are some centres that do fab work with bunnies. So its important not to tar them all with the same brush :)

I am having a rescue bun from the RSPCA in about two weeks, already know which one I'm having. It's from the RSPCA Walsall, I get their details from this website. I believe the lad I'm having has been waiting for a while to be homed. I can't wait, I just hope Bea and him get on.

Fair point; I've just been rather surprised at what I've heard of some of the centres. :?

The RSPCA centre near me is a very large one..they were featured on PET RESCUE and earnt a lot from that to improve the kennels...i think that's probably why they agreed to do it:?
I got Daisy and Thistle from there....both were strays and Thistle was very nervous.
Thistle is now very loved and the most affectionate of my rabbits :D and she's soon to be paired with my new bun Crosby

RSPCA Reading send all their rabbits and guinea pigs to seperate specialist rescues who's policy is not to put a healthy animal down. The one in Basingstoke fosters them out I believe but I am not certain on this.

I have also heard this about the RSPCA putting animals to sleep but I would not put everyone of their branchs in the same catagory. Many, foster out due to lack of space and many regularly update their websites which indicates to me that they are trying everything to find homes for all the animals in their care. Many RSPCA's are listed on the RR site under A-Z of rescues, and a few do list the bunnies that they do have

Its a shame when certain rescues will not participate though, like Bramblespack's rescue who will not consider trying to rehome them through RR :( , you would of thought that joint efforts have a higher rate of rehoming these unwanted furries, after all it is the animals welfare that should come first

I can't say what the RSPCA does but our local SSPCA keeps rabbits for ages.

I got Kim and Aggie from there (Aggie was on RR's website). I think she had been in for quite a while.

When I got Kim she had been in for at least 8 months. Kim was lucky because she was kept inside but Aggie was in one of their outside hutches. It is quite sad because Kim is a bit insitutionalised and has really only started to get confidence in hopping about freely since we got Aggie - before that when she got out for a play she would hide under a chair and stay their for ages.

The staff their do their best but they are working on a shoestring and the outside hutches have seen better days. Aggie was actually underneath some ferrets :!: :?: :!: :?:

They get as much care and attention as time allows but at least they have a roof over their heads and get regular feeding and cleaning which is better than being euthanised.

I know that the staff put an appeal in the Dear Santa for some toys to help pass the time.

Can't say I've been much impressed with what I've heard about the RSPCA, particularly their attitude towards putting down healthy rescued animals.

What a lot of people forget is that the RSPCA is a charity.

They haven't got unlimited, time, money and resources.

They dont receive any lottery or state funding its all voluntary donations.

They cant help every animal or keep every animal that they cant rehome forever.

We should be thankful we have got the RSPCA rather then moaning about the way they run thing's.

Hi Louise you have made so very good points as usual :D
Although the RSPCA is not perfect as an Organisation, it is important to think what would happen without all the good work it does to help animals.
I believe the RSPCA helps more animals than it lets down, and we need to encourage the positive aspects and not knock the Organisation as a whole.
If we all researched our local RSPCA Centres and made one positive suggestion as to how it could improve, think about the big impact we could make across the Country!.
I believe Tamsin has helped the RSPCA in the past with providing toys for the Rescue bunnies, this sort of thing makes a big difference to an individual rabbit, and gives the RSPCA Centres food for thought too.
Ideas and suggestions have to be realistic and ones the RSPCA can attain, but I have found my local centre to be open to ideas and very willing to work together.
I know all places are not the same, but if you focus on the ones that are open to ideas to start with, it is amazing how quickly positivity spreads. :D

I know this is an old thread but I have to say that the worcester branch of the RSPCA seems to have a dedication to Rabbits. I have just adopted two, and used the search feature on this site! They were being fostered by a lovely bunny mummy called Jo who knocks herself out to help the bu nnies in and around her area, infact their details are still showing on here.

I have to agree that they are a charity and they can't help every animal that comes their way unfortuantly.

The way forward is better education, we have an RSPCA inspector coming into our school tomorrow to give a talk on bunnies and how and where they should be cared for, I hassen to add its in response to a campaign that my daughter recently started aboout the plight of the bunnies bought at Easter. you can see a bit of her campaign on her website :D

Oh My goodness this is my old thread from the days when I had one bunny, gosh how quickily things change. I've had two of my bunnies (Marley partner for Beatrix and Maisie partner for Bob) from RSPCA Walsal and I've found them very good and helpfull. I am still in touch with Lucy from there and she still loves to hear what Maisie and Marley are up to.

I've had two house checks and the lady (don't know her name) who came to do that was brill.

My only thing is, I woud be happy to foster some bunnies, but there is no RSPCA in my area, Walsal doesn't cover Wolves. If we had a Wolves RSPCA I would be happy to help out a few bunnies on a fostering basis. The two lops from Wolves that I've finally found homes for could of done with going to the RSPCA, but as I said we don't have one and none of the surrounding area RSPCA's will get involved if it's not on their patch.

I was up at our local SSPCA today, they do private boarding and thats where we leave our dog when we go away for occasional weekends as she cant come with us up to Aberdeen where we have to stay in a hotel. Not ideal but she came from them and knows them so shes ok.

Anyway, I know the manager quite well from adopting the dog and stuff and he was telling me that they are absolutely full to bursting with rabbits.

They definately never put a healthy animal down.
