  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Monopoly being spayed today.

Just dropped the little mite off at the vet and I'm having my usual guilty pangs. Got the day off work so I'm near the phone and I can keep an eye on Sheffield and distract him with carrots if he gets upset. Moving in two and a half weeks so this will give her some time to mend before she moves into the rabbitorium, plus the living room girls are getting very snappy with each other, which I think is down to them getting a whiff of Monopoly's hormones. So, I know it's the best thing for her so she can live a nice peaceful live with lots of bunny chums, but I still feel like the meanest person in the world today. :(

And it didn't help that she seemed to know it was coming, and made several escape attempts last night, climbing the babygate from the bathroom and (once) the babygate into the living room too...

I knew it was a mistake to let her watch Chicken Run last night. :( I found a rabbit sized glider whittled out of fiddle sticks hidden behind the toilet.

  I am sure she will be fine - you'd better check her mouth for skeleton keys to the vets cages before you drop her off!!

I did think she'd nibbled that carrot down into an odd shape.

Awww Bertie don't feel bad, you are doing the best thing for her please remember that :) I know it's no fun having to pace the house wondering if everything is going ok and generally feeling sick to the stomach with worry! Seeesh the things we put ourselves through!
I'm sure everything will be fine... she'll be back home sulking at you in no time at all! ;)
Let us know when you hear some news.

Just got my phone call from the vets and she's awake. Hurrah. She is our dimmest of rabbits so chances are she hasn't noticed that anything's happened anyway. As long as she's eating she's happy, so I'll take a carrot along when I collect her.

That's great!! :D

Better take the handcuffs though just in case she decides she doesn't want to go home!! Give her something to work on escaping from to take her mind off the op!

Brilliant news :D Glad to hear that all went well and that she is awake - what time will she be home? We all want a full report :D

I was allowed to get her at 4, but I couldn't coz it my turn to visit the people vet, so now I'm collecting her at half 5. I'll probably sneak a bit of carrot in with me so I can make sure she's eaten something. The cage is all cleaned, her room is all vacuumed, she's got the cuddle cup for sleeping on tonight, just need to sort her out a hay rack as normally they just get it dumped unceremoniously in the cage each day. They only pull it all out anyway, I just cut out the middle man.

Just got home with Monopoly. Apparently her womb was the tiniest the vet had ever seen. :? The nurse was of the opinion that it was better out than in as it was definitely abnormal. Anyhoo, she's come round from the op ok. She's done some poo, had a tiny nibble on a bit of carrot, she's not hugely interested in food though. She's still very groggy and more than a little confused. I just hope that the teeny womb is the only part that hadn't grown right. :(
