  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Freedom questions!

Sorry for odd title couldn't really think how to summarise it really :?
Flopsy has just been allowed full run of the lounge as she was being really good and going to 'bed' when she was told to etc etc.
However.... She would not go into her hutch last night and was acted like she'd never met us before. She wouldn't come over for strokes or anything! Its like she doesn't see the hutch as her place really, do you think that it is likely? I never reach inside or anything and she's usually in it during the day.Theres plenty of things to do in there etc.
Maybe she has too much freedom too soon (shes 14 weeks - I think, is there a reliable way of telling bunnies' ages?)?
Any ideas on why she is refusing to go back into her cage welcomed!
Thanks for reading :D

Could something have frightened her?

It could very well be a case of too much freedom too soon, how long have you had her? Others can advise you better than me! I think you need to let her get used to her cage then gradually allow her more freedom.
I use dinner time as home time, works every time!!

Mine runs away from me sometimes when he's enjoying his freedom.. when usually he lets me pick him up without a fuss for cuddles. Think he's just trying to tell u he dont wanna go to bed  He'll soon learn!
I usually put simba's food in his cage so he can go straight to it when i put him to bed and then he seems a bit happier and hungry :D
Im sure he will get better as time goes by and he gets used to the routine.

Thanks for replying! I get all upset when no one replies!!!!
I think she got carried away with the freedom idea!!
