Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Toby odd behaviours

Since yesterday Tobys breathing has been quite erratic. It's usually quite deep and slow and I can see that is all over the shop.

He seems to be sitting with his print paws widely apart and often is putting his nose in the air.

Today we had a bit of a scare. It look as though he was choking and out popped a bum nugget from his mouth.

He's been his usual naughty self climbing and zooming round. Good appetite and out put.

I have provisionally booked a appointment with John 9.10am Monday. Would these symptoms sound like he is developing fluid around his heart? Would the choking be any connection?

aw Toby :( I've no knowledge or experience to impart but sending all the vibes in the world,. We know he'll be in good hands with Uncle John xx

Phillip sometimes goes through stages of lying with paws apart and nose up. I don't have much to help you with but sending lots of cuddles for Toby and hope you can get some answers with John x

Thanks guys. If he starts being unwell ill just take him to anton out of hours. I'm wondering if this is something that can be diagnosed without xray? Worried :, (

When I last went to see John he could tell there was less fluid by just listening to his chest, so hopefully he might not need one. Try not to worry though (easier said than done of course) as it might not even be anything bad. Toby will get the best care from you and John [emoji4]

Thank you Phillip :) I don't really want him to be away from home as that's when the stasis all kicks off

If he is putting his nose in the air this could be indicative of him not being able to get enough oxygen into his lungs (due to his known heart condition). His medication may need altering and personally I'd call the Vet today, explain the situation and ask if he really needs to be examined today. Something as simple as increasing his dose of diuretic may help. The Vet can also check for any signs of a secondary bacterial infection.

Sending vibes for him x

Thanks Jane. He's only done it a few times and not for long but it's definitely the start of something brewing (i think). I have spoken to the vets today and have appointment Monday. If he does it again I'll just take him to anton out of hours which is from 1.00 onwards.

Hope you wont need to do so, topping up the vibes x

So Tipper Tapper Toby saw uncle John today. Checked his chest for sounds of fluid and couldn't hear anything. Said to just keep an eye on him.

Dennis sploofed the whole way back with Tobys faced buried into his back with fear. Dennis is so cool
