adopting another rabbit from Buckys family tomorrow- advice on Netherland dwarf

Hi everyone, I hope everyone and there fur families are well? You all gave me great advice on my adopted rabbit Bucky, I sadly lost a few weeks ago. I got a message from his original owner last week saying her mother in law, adopted a new puppy, the puppy is apparently terrorizing the poor 8 month Netherland dwarf who’s free range. Would I like to adopt it for £30. Truth be told, had a lot of family stuff going on last week, I ignored the texts ( I do feel guilty).
Messaged again today to say, the poor rabbits hiding under the sofa, please can I collect it tomorrow free of charge and too not worry about a carrier as he will fit in my handbag 😡 I’m told he’s 8 months blue colour and apparently very friendly. The mother in law thinks I must be a decent person, I’m the only person she’s ever heard of taking a rabbit to the vets ( I know) tomorrow at 10.00 I’m going to collect him and give him a decent home. I’ve never had a Netherland dwarf, how many pellets etc do they need? All I know so far, there’s a huge bag of food to go with him, dread to think what it is. I’m guessing take care of him exactly as I would a giant breed? Thanks everyone-Ali x

I hope that your new rabbit will bring you lots of joy  I’m glad that you are taking him in. My current bunny is tiny, breeding unknown as he’s a rescue but suspected to have be Netherland dwarf or part. He’s full of attitude, he might be small but he’s a very big character. He’s extremely active, quite an acrobat and loves to jump on to and off things. I feed him a few pellets, probably just under an egg cup full per day. He eats lots of hay for his size.

Your new rabbit sounds lovely, I hope he will settle in well, would love to see photos:love:

I'd advise getting the Bunny booked in to to see a Rabbit savvy Vet ASAP to arrange getting him vaccinated https://rabbitwelfare.co.uk/rabbit-health/vaccinations/

and to discuss neutering https://rabbitwelfare.co.uk/rabbit-health/neutering/

Also, Nethies can be prone to Dental problems due to the shape of their skull.

So a Dental examination is necessary too especially as it sounds as though he may not have had the best diet.

As for what to feed new Bunny, these links may be useful to read

I have 2 nethies and they are teeny but love to cause mischief and have huggeee personalities! They do use a lot of energy so always seem hungry, but I only give them a few pellets so their tiny tums have room for all the hay they need.

If you have any questions once you get your bun , just ask..:)

Good on you for reducing this little one!

Mervinius has two Nethies, and I have one. I always seem to have a Nethie among my hooligans at the moment

They are gorgeous little rabbits

I suspect he isn't neutered? I would contact the vet asap when he gets home with you and book in his vaccinations, starting with the RHD2 (which as you know covers RHD1 as well). Then a couple of weeks later he can have the myxo vaccine:

https://rabbitwelfare.co.uk/rabbit-health/vaccinations/

That should put your mind at rest concerning that. At the same time, ask about the neutering.

Here's some good info on diet:

As Mervinius has said, any questions - just ask

Hope your new rabbit settles in well. If you are going to change his food do it very very slowly.
