  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi There!

Well my babies went to the vets today. We have 2 very healthy little BOYS! (not one of each as we 1st thought)

Anyway the vet said that they can't be neutered until they are at least 6 months old. They are now 3. They live together outside in their hutch quite happily most of the time, although they are trying to mount each other alot now!

What should I do? I had 2 boys in the past and they lived together un neutered fine, but I have been told so much I don't know what I should be doing. Please could you help!

On a good note the vets were really good and gave me loads of info on rabbits and details on the welfare associations which was good of them!

Thanks

Anna

ps we now have to think of a name for the one that is a boy not a girl!

I had to separate my two boys at four months as they were fighting to badly.

If there is no serious fighting I should think that they will be alright to stay together :?

Nope no fighting just the odd bit of sexual tension and the mounting of each other!
They do like being together as they cuddle up and groom each other all the time! They don't like to be apart for too long, that is why we were sure that Brown Bunny was a girl! lol !

We are trying to think of names!

i'm probably mistaken, but i thought you could have boys done when their testicles had dropped. i think big bunnies take longer to develop than normal/smaller size buns so six months would be about right for, say, a french lop (like my Jack). sorry i can't help more than this. did you vet say why he wouldn't do them now?
at a guess, if they're happy together now then i'd keep them together and continue to do so until their hormones kick in and then separate if fur flies!?
