small poos and moulting

Trufflesmum

Young Bun
Hi, Truffles, a lionhead, seems to be producing smaller poos. I'm pretty certain she hasn't got stasis as she"s lively and eating her hay and veg well. She's drinking and peeing fine. She's gone off her pellets though. Her poos are golden but much smaller than usual. I assume it's to do with moulting and ingesting more fur than usual. Is there anything I can do to help? She hates being groomed but was clipped last week at the vets. Thanks.

I am sorry your post was missed. How is Truffles now? It might have been the visit to the Vets which upset him.

Bless her, yes could be the vets or the fur being ingested - if you see elongated poo's with fur on them well you know for sure. Some people advise pineapple as it breaks down the fur more but there is also a risk of this upsetting their guts and causing stasis. I would brush & clip her often even thoug shes ot keen - and stroke her and give her a treat or forage afterwards. Mine arent keen either but let me knowing theres yummy plants afterwards and a fuss xx sometimes you acknowledging their discomfort and reassuring them does help abit and builds trust over time. xx

Hi, thanks for your replies and sorry for the slow response. I couldn't seem to press reply on my usual p.c. so couldn't respond. Ye,s I am sure Truffles was really miffed after her visit to the vet, but seemed to be back to her usual self (mood wise) soon after. Her poos are still a bit on the small side though. She's still not too fond of her pellets (I haven't changed them. She has always been on Burgess Excel), but she's a good hay eater and she is going mad for the forage I've been giving her now the dandelions, pear and apple twigs etc are back in season. Her poos are not strung together just smaller and golden. One of my other rabbits has had stasis in the past, so I know what the signs are and it's not that, as Truffles is active, bounds to see me and has been doing binkies and flopsies. I might try the pineapple this week and see if that helps. I wondered if she was trying to adapt her diet to help by not eating the pellets and wanting more forage to increase the fibre in her diet? Maybe I'm worrying too much but they are such fragile creatures, aren't they? I wouldn't want it to develop into anything more serious. Thanks for your advice :)

My bunnies poo always looks less impressive during spring & summer when they mainly eat forage but for mine they tend to be darker & a tiny bit smaller.

Thanks. That's reassuring to know. Do you feed pellets all the time? She had a few this morning morning she had a few pellets, but really seems to get much more excited about forage now. I must sound poo obsessed!:D

Thanks. She lives with Piccolo. My husband who is not at all rabbit mad like me, calls them collectively Truffalo!
