What is the gestation period for a bunnie?

Hiya,

Can anyone tell me the gestation period for a bunnie I thought it was four weeks but as a rescue bunnie has just given birth after over 5 weeks I am wondering if i was wrong.

Argg I have to but another hutch today for the other bunnie just incase :(

Hi Siobhan,

It's a month, just a about - i.e. 31 days.... If you are sure the doe didn't have any contact with other bucks, then rest assured odd gestation periods have been noted by breeders in the past, not usually going over time but the theory is stored sperm or delayed implantation. Rabbits don't ovulate until they are mated, so in rare cases they may store sperm and ovulate a lot later on.... the later ovulation may be triggered by being mounted by another rabbit, for instance. It's not common but it does happen! But most usually it is a breeder's mistake with dates, or the rabbit accidentally being re-mated.

They have had a hard time of it lately and were very scared when they arrived. But have settled into lovely bunnies, We are sure thwey have been with us for 6 weeks. And they have been no where near a buck ib that time. I will get another hutch today and sperate the other one as I am sure she will produce to.
