Please Note - Medical Advice
Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.
You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.
We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.
Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.
Is there anything that can be given?
Thanks for these links MM.
Is there anything that can be given?
Cherry is fine in herself, eating etc. She is on Panacur and Metacam but by the way she is I don't think she can be in any pain. I have to monitor her. Her sister had a heart condition but maybe this is totally different. I did read in one of those links that it can be connected? She is nearly 7.
I'm glad to hear she's doing well at the moment
Regarding the heart condition connection, do you mean this?
Cardiovascular disease – disease of the heart muscle, infection in the sac around the heart (pericardium) and disease of the blood vessels (arthrosclerosis) can all lead to less oxygen reaching the muscle tissues with resultant weakness
I guess at this stage anything is a possibility and only a competent vet would be able to perhaps hazard a guess as to what's happened. These things are very difficult to pinpoint ... When my rabbit had sudden onset head tilt my (savvy) vet didn't know what had caused it. Quite perplexing they are these rabbits
Yes, this is it. I've just read that again and it could actually apply to me also! My legs are not as strong as they used to be!
It's a very real thing as well. Lack of oxygen can make the legs feel like they are made of concrete.
Is your heart OK tonibun? Would you even know?
