Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Fur mites help please

2Angels

Young Bun
Hi,

Our rabbit seemed to develop quite a bad case of fur mites following a bout of status (not sure of reason for status as all checks by the vet came back fine, eating fine now). We tried spot on first and the outbreak got worse. The vet then tried the ivermectin injection. He has had 3 injections of this two weeks apart each time(last one 2 weeks ago). His housing has been completely disinfected multiple times. His neck has completely cleared of them now, but he still hasnt got rid of them on both of his ears.
Really not sure what to do now? The vet seems hesitant to do a fourth dose.

Thanks in advance x

I had a rabbit who, after 5 injections, still was no better, so they shaved all the fur off her back and she is fine now. So, can you put a photo of your rabbit on here as they don't usually get the mites on their ears so it could be something else.
