Getting a Continental giant

Hi all I am looking at a Continental giant rabbit to adopt. I am not daft and realise a lot of specialist space and care but I’d just like some general info on the breed and personal experience as I have had rexes and my recent beautiful nethie so I’m on the complete opposite spectrum!!! However I would live info on health lifespan etc and tips whether you would recommend the breed etc :) I know about the living space I would be having them as a house bun anyway :) would you recommend two etc Thankyou!

Oooh - I'm jealous. I'd love a continental giant and it's an ambition of mine for later life. I'm afraid I don't have any experience in the field of continental giants but you'd need to rabbit proof your home. Cables and stuff like that would be high on the list of vulnerabilities as rabbits think they look like tree roots so they munch them. Their food intake is also quite high so you'd have to factor that in. But I would imagine we have lots of continental giant owners on this forum who will have a wealth of information on the breed. Good luck to you and I look forward to any photos.

Well, I’ve only had the one but he was a true privilege.

They can be strong willed but my boy just wanted cuddles from his mum.

He made it to just a tiny bit short of 6 but was full of life until then.

Don’t be fooled though, they aren’t docile despite the size. He was plutonium powered as a youngster! Space, space and more space. An entire house here

Hi there! I am still actually debating whether I want a conti as after talking to people I am really being put off by their short lifespan. It will make me so sad knowing I don’t have a lot of time with them. I am still looking at rescue condos and also at my other favourite dwarf breeds like nethies mini lops and lionheads :)

Aw he sounds lovely!! I am still debating as the short lifespan makes me so sad however 6 isn’t bad at all I think I could cope with that but so many people are telling me theirs barely made 4 which would make me so sad as after the premature loss of my nethie who I had for almost 4 years it was just so not long enough :( I am still looking at rescue contis but also my favourite dwarf breeds such as nethies lionheads and mini lops :) thankyou x

I have had a couple of contis reach 8 years. I’ve had a few of them. They are a special breed, with a distinct personality. I love them! One thing I have learnt about rabbits though is there is no guarantees. Any breed has it’s issues and rabbits as a whole are not easy pets.
