  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Cuthberts Ear

No the room isnt overly warm, but the fire is lit and he is led on a double layer of fleece blanket cuddled up to Dillon, and his vaccinations were 4th November.

His ear does not feel any warmer than other one or warmer than Dillons?

I would not be overly concerned atm, Giants can sometimes have an ear tip that bends over from time to time. Just keep an eye on things and I'd also have a look into his ear. Although I doubt there will be a problem. Obviously if the entire ear droops and/or if he starts shaking his head alot/scratching at the ear then a Vet check would be a good idea.

Heat can affect an ear in that way, but so can infection. Keep an eye in case he has any head tilt at all, shaking his head or scratching, and at that point consult a vet.

Otherwise I would wait and see whether it returns to normal :)

Phew normal ear again. OH said it was warm in the room but I honestly can not tell how warm it is (I keep having hot flushes). Cuthbert bounced about, had his 3pm treat, came upstairs to put the washing away and by the time we had done all that his ear was erect again. Phew!

Wha a relief! It's always a worry when something unusual happens, isn't it?

Glad that Cuthbert's ear is back to normal now x

Wouldn't that mean you'd turn the heating off?
