Sneezing

Ross

Warren Scout
Hey guys!!

My little Marnie has been sneezing all day which is weird as she usually never does!
took her out the hutch in to her playpen and hasn't sneezed once!
so I've changed her hutch and given her a half wood shavings (which she loves!) and half hay bedding, where I usually give her all Wood shavings.
so I'm hoping that's helps :)

also we went away last week and it doesn't look like they ate as much whilst we where away, and in the 2 days we have been back they seem to have drank and ate a lot more, so I'm not sure if that might have anything to do with it?
the house was kept at over 10C temp is that too low could it be a little cold?
and also ive done a lot of cloths washing so there was a smell of fabric conditioner in the air, could that have done something?

I'm a bit worried I'm very over protective of her! but in her pen at the moment and she's not sneezed once..

any thought on this guys??

cheers!

Wood shavings does have dust in it and is not recommended for bunnies. It can also give off toxic fumes when wet. A favourite bedding is newspaper and hay. Does she have a litter tray?

it gets toxic??
she chucks her litter tray aroud if we put it in with her lol shes a nutter

Re wood shavings

Re the sneezing, it may be that her nasal passages are being irritated by the wood shavings or some other allergen. But continued sneezing can indicate the onset of a Respiratory Tract infection, even in the absence of any nasal discharge or any other obvious symptoms.

So if you Rabbit continues to have sneezing episodes you need to get her thoroughly examined by a Rabbit Savvy Vet. It's always best to nip any potential problem in the bud :)

Hi Ross

Tonibun is right, shavings can cause a problem with rabbits ..

http://www.rabbit.org/care/shavings.html

Smells like you describe can cause sneezing and the fact that it disappeared when she was out would indicate that it's a reaction to the shavings and not a respiratory infection.

I wouldn't worry about the house being cold. Rabbits are better with cold than heat :)

Some wood shavings can be the problem as can some cleaners (I found chlorine bleach to be an issue even with a second rinse in the washer). A vet visit may also be in order for early treatment of any medical issues.
