Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Administrating isathal drops

Hi
Poor Bracken is on serum drops and isathal drops for yet another nasty ulcer. I have managed the serum drops fine but finding the isathal drops really difficult! I t doesn't come out of the tube very easily so he clamps his eye firmly shut whilst I am battling with the tube.any suggestions?

I’ve been using eye drops for my foster rabbit for a few weeks now, this is one of the ones we’ve tried. I kneel on the floor with my legs crossed and put him between my legs & lean over him. He’s been quite good at letting me hold the eye open and put the drops in from this position. He wasn’t so cooperative in the very beginning so it was more of a struggle but now he actually lies down when I sit him between my legs and seems to enjoy it lol (I also have to hold a warm pad on his eye before the drops, I think that’s the bit he quite likes!)

If you hold the tube so that it's almost vertical it should come out quite easily - I used to kneel on the floor with Kirsty by my right knee, my arm around him with my hand coming over his head to hold his eye open, then my left hand to administer the drops. As the tube is vertical I found it better to apply it to the top of the eye. I hope that makes sense?

Sending lots of vibes for Bracken, I hope his eye feels better soon.

Thanks both. I put it in the corner of his eye this morning but think I will enlist the help of my o/h next time if I am still having bother!
