Pepper - Will She Need More Food with New Fur Growth?

Pepper the bunny who had |Mites is doing well but should I give her more food to help with her new coat. I don't want to discourage her hay eating as she isn't great at that anyway. She eats some but prefers her other food. She will eats lots of grass and greens but the grass has been cut now.

Hi tonibun :)

I am glad she's doing well with the treatment!

I would try and give a bit extra, as she will need to grow a coat before winter sets in.
When a rabbit moults they need extra calories to cope with it so this would be a similar situation.

I found that my rabbit in a moult did better with a few extra pellets a day and it didn't affect her hay eating in the slightest - she already eats loads of hay and readigrass :)

You could give her some Readigrass (dried grass) as that has a higher protein content than hay. It is increased protein that is needed.

Personally I would not increase her pellet ration as you dont want her reducing the limited amount of hay she will eat.

I always leave a patch of my lawn uncut for the rabbits. A kind of 'wild area' :)
