I could rearrange to free up a large hutch and run to take a couple of these rabbits if someone could help with transport.

I have been thinking that Magic needs to come indoors anyway.

I could take 4 of these rabbits.

But we need someone to contact us as we are in Rugby Warwickshire and need to know more details.
Espeacially if we need to go south to pick up. Unless they are being brought up the country.

Please let us know as soon as possiable so this can be sorted.

:( Hiya all - OMG this doesn't sound good - I can help with transport to Tracy's at Rugby if need be.

I could transport from London up to Midlands if that helps.

Just PM or post if I can help.

Could possibly board 2 x short term also perhaps until Tracy has more room to rehome.

Lets hope we can help these bunnies before its too late.

I am pretty full here at the moment, but if one or two of the rabbits require emergency boarding, I can help short term. :D

Hiya - blimey I really should learn to read the A-Z the right way up!! - I could help with bunny run from Bristol upward to the Midlands - London is on the opposite side to Devon Counties.

Sounds like between Tracy - Rugby and Worcestershire - Adele and me short term fostering we could help quite a few of these if were not too late.

I too can possible help with transport, know the m5 like the back of my hand upto burnham on sea junction 22, but limited to the hours mon-fri 9 - 3pm. How big are french lops then? I drive a freelander so would all 10 fit in it or not? There is also a Heather in Birmingham willing to foster I think

I have had a message from the lady who was working to get these rabbits to safety.
They have not been able to get in touch with the guy who owns them since friday as his phone is switched off.
So this rescue is either too late or will have to be postponed until contact can be made again.
Sorry it isn't better news.

is there no way he can be contacted. did he leave a name, perhaps he could be located through the electoral roll if we had a name. he might of lost his phone or got flat battery so is unaware of the help being offered

Good news :D

We have managed to get in contact with the guy and he is delivering the rabbits today, we just wanted to get them out.

We are still looking for placements as Maire has no space and they will be living in her kitchen. I will update later with sexes etc. People should be aware that does may well be pregnant.

Although these rabbits will be out of danger we do urgently need to find either perminate homes or people with recsues to go on and rehome them.

Sorry I can't help. I have begging the other half all weekend, bu tto no avail. Stuff like this doesn't usually happen near enough to me to help aswell. :(
Have you tried Animals in Distress in Newton Abbot or Exeter RSPCA for help? I think their numbers are both on Rabbit Rehome. I have a 80cm indoor bunny cage going spare if that's any use to anyone for a small bun.

Oh this does sound like more encouraging news! - Got to say I feared the worst for these bunsters yesterday.

Offer still open for transport the weekend if it helps for some of the bunsters! - Tracy - you know were I am if you need me - Just PM or drop a line on here if you need me to help with a bunny run to you - or if I can help anyone else with collection of bunns for fostering in Midlands just give me a yell.

I could offer a home to a male if I can get help with transport.

As you may know I have a female french lop due to be spayed in a couple of weeks and will then be looking for a bf for her.

I can keep them seperate for the sake of afew weeks or so to offer a safe home now.

The bunnies have arrived with maire,

There are french lops, ducth and flemish giants and a mixture of all three. The man has addmitted that he was breeding them to sell and has other rabbits at home :( , which he has not wanted us to take.

There are three males and 7 females which have all been with a male so all could be pregnant. They are all different colours

One female is needing to see a vet and the other are very sorry for them selves. They are very frightend and Maire wants to give them a few days before moving any again.

I will keep you all updated with their progress

Denny
12-10-2004, 08:08 PM
So is everything sorted, transport, foster homes etc for these 10 bunnies?

Ratty Haven
13-10-2004, 10:30 AM
no not really, Maire wants to give them some time to calm down before moving again and I am so busy with work and all my rescues that I have not had time to sort out places. I think in an ideal world we are looking for perminant homes for all the rabbits which aren't pregnant and possibly a few other rescues to take a few of these big bunnies.

At a ruff guess between Maire and I we must have over 60 bunnies looking for new homes. We are both streched to our limits and stuggleing to keep up the hutch cleaning, which limits time I can be online finding homes.

If anyone can offer a for ever home to bunny please let me know we have so many to choose from all different shapes sizes and colours.

Would it help if I went through the offers of transport/homes on the various forums and organised it for you? If I gave you a list of which rescues could take what and the transport arrangements to get them there? If the frenchies aren't ready then moving out some of the other rabbits that are would presumably give you more room? I could possible find more places through my connects with RR too.

That would be a wonderful help and yes moving other rabbits would make more space for the french lops. You would be star for doing that :D

I should add that the majority of rabbits are in Plymouth but I can arrange with Maire what can be brought here etc. I have agreed with Maire that what ever I manage to home I will re fill empty hucthes from her.

I have at present:

2x young french lop crosses one buck and one doe
1x small adult buck
1x black and tan young buck
2x adult does very nervous which were removed by the RSPCA

Marie has all sorts mostly all cross breeds

I can accommodate a French Lop or a Pair of French Lops, as I have the space....the bigger rabbits are more difficult to find places for I assume?
If this is the case, I can help with the larger breeds.
I have one unit free (for one rabbit or a pair)

Hiya Tams - I'd be struggling to long term foster as my plan for putting my GP in their pen in the Garage Den to share with the bunns has been scuppered as both the bunns got really territorial so the GP's have "Pignapped" the spare bedroom" :? - but if you feel you get an emergency situation I'll always try and help so just yell if you struggle for places.

I can do transport for Adele also from Bristol to Midlands if this helps. I have a Jeep type car so should be o.k to get 4 young Frenchies in one pen - 2 in another or other combinations.

If I didn't get back from Bristol until late afternoon I could keep bunnies overnight and then arrange transport to Adele and Tracy's as I can use the large puppy pens for overnight stays.

Hope this helps.

The bunnies are on the move.....

There are 8 going up to Worcester/Warwickshire as we speak and in the near future two more will be going to Berkshire/Herts.

I'll let the others tell you about them when they arrive as they'll have met them and I bet they're excited!

Two lads are on trip to rescue, one more is perminantly homed and will be leaving at a later date. All the girls are still at the rescue as they have 4 weeks to wait to ensure they aren't pregnant, one will be leaving for a perminant home later.

We have moved out 6 other rabbits to clear cage space so there is now enough room to house them comfortably.

So, of the french lops themselves there are 6 available females still in rescue in Devon, they won't be cleared non pregnant and ready to home for four weeks though.

Confused? It took us several calls to work out which rabbits where going where, when

A couple of people to confess - I'm not the only one who succombed to temptation then? Three of them are coming to me forever. Not the French lops, but ones to make room for them.

Tam do you know the big fellas name? I forgot to ask, I was so excited. And his girlfriends name?

I will post pics tonight, I have already hunted down the camera and put new batteries in it 8)

Neither the lad or his girlfriend have a name yet so you get to pick :D They left about 2.30 ish I think so a four hour trip would make it atleast 6.30 so a little while yet.

Yep, someone else too but they didn't ask for one and then kidnap two extras!! Like some people ;)

I'm working on pics right now.

A huge Thank You to everyone involved. The Bunsters are great, I am in love with Nelson (White British Giant  ) and my youngest son is totally smitten with Coco (if it is Coco, somehow I think we got the wrong bun as he seems rather young, but he is well and truely rabbit napped now) so I didn't get a look in with him yet, but he is soft and sweet and Magic will luurve him. Winnie, Nelson's girlfriend, is one lucky lass with a big boy like him to snuggle up to. She is beautiful too of course. I was good and restricted us to short cuddles tonight as they needed space after their long trip. They have been tucked up snug in their shed for a while now while I resist the urge to drag them back in to cuddle them some more.

Lany it was great to meet you, thank you sooooooo much. I hope you enjoyed that wine, you deserved it!

Tamsin, what organisational skills, I am well impressed. Thankyou.

Alison, thankyou for your part of the journey, I hope the Buns were polite and said thankyou during the transfer.

Marie and Siobvan thankyou for sending me these gorgeous rabbits. I promise to take good care of them.

Tracy sorry for bunny napping from you (not really they're miiiiiiiiinne)!!!

Marie told me Coco was an adult, though as he was dumped in the woods they weren't certain his exact age but I guess you'll have to see if he grows. So long as Magic and you are happy thats the main thing I guess :) I'm looking forward to hearing what Magic thinks but I guess he's got a snip to come first :)

So is Nelson what you expected size wise or did you get a shock? :D

I think that i'm going to have to ask for your addy from Lany tomorrow.

Me want my rabbits back.
Only joking they are great and I hope that you all have a long enjoyable life together.

Winnie and Nelson remind me very much of a pair I lost at the end of last year beginning of this. So It's probably best that you got them instead of me otherwise they might have had to stay.

doorkeeper
17-10-2004, 02:20 AM
I won't say I was shocked by Nelson's size, but I was definitely impressed. He makes Isadora look delicate and petite!! And she made my big bunny Blackberry look sort of average bunny size. And yes Winnie is a big girl too. She is probably as big as Izzie, if not bigger. The most surprising thing about Nelson is the size of his head. It is huge!! Even huger than it needs to be to go with his body.

When I think about it Coco may be bigger and older than I realise because I was looking at him compared to Nelson. And Thistle(Netherland) is going to seem like a little dot. I am sure Magic will like Coco, but as you say, he will have to have the snip first or he will put her off trying to climb all over her. Once that is done and dusted I will make sure to take pics of their introductions.

Tracy, you are a good sport

I'm off upstairs to gather energy for a day playing with the rabs tomorrow.

Thanks again everyone.

I am quite certain. I had a really good look at him, and he is intact, no sign that it is just swollen sacks left over from a castration. There isn't any scarring at all. For comparison I had a good look at Coco too. There is no difference between them. He has definitely not been neutered. He wasn't exactly pleased at the attention, nor at having his nails clipped. I have a few scratches as a result
Marie may be in for rather a lot of rather large rabbits :( As if she wasn't already from the French Lops

Why did she think he had been done?

HI,

As Marie has no access to the net I will speak for her, I called her last nigth and said about the white buck, I remember when he came in as she rang me about it. Apperantly the guy who brought them in (there was two) said he had brought them through the free ads paper as he wanted them for breeding (they are ment to be flemish giants, I wouldn't like to say whether they are as I don't know my bunnie breeds). When he bought them the guy selling them told him that they where male and female. He took them to the vet who told him they were both neautered males, so the guy could not breed from them so he did not want them.

That is why they arrived with Maire, I can't honestly remember when they came in about a months I guess but might have been longer.

I will apologise on behalf of Maire, as she was only going on the information she was given. She did have a look her self and she thought he was done.

Any problems please contact either me or Maire directly as I have said she had no access to the net. :D

Well Lany was telling fibs wasn't she as the black male never made it to me.

Howdie Folks - Sorry I've been a little quiet - its just been soooo manic ferrying around the bunns.

Yep - I have to confess   there was a bit more rabbit napping going on then we thought and me the culprit  :!:

Zac - arrived and just spoke to me somehow - he's had a rough time of it but is a beautiful Jet Black biggish bun (not sure re breed - I'll post some pickies soon)

Marie has told me Zac was left neglected and the RSPCA in Plymouth took custody of him and some other bunns from the owner. He loves fuss but cowers a little in fear at the moment but I feel sure with TLC he will learn to trust again - He's already becoming more self assured - just since Saturday.

Hopefully I can do some good work with him, arrange vaccination and Neuter and PERHAPS IF LANY DOESN'T FALL COMPLETELY IN LOVE - keep an eye open for a special home for this boy.

He has his own bedroom at the mo (Yes I've lost another bedroom) and Zac would make a lovely house bunny - even though not yet neutered he is lovely and clean and the last two nights he has been happily doing rather large binkies around the lounge with us and doesn't appear to be destructive at all - has a binky and is then just happy to sit and watch Coronation Street - Sad Life I lead eh folks.

Tracy Gal - Lovely to see you yesterday - hope the bunns are settleing in o.k - I'm sure they are with your lovely big bunny pens for them both.

Doorkeeper (Louise) I'm sorry to hear about the shock you had re the Neuter or rather un-neutered bunnies - This is not good news and I'm sure we all feel for you - I'm gobsmacked to say the least :( It sounds as though Tams is investigating the situation with Marie - and I'm sure we'll all rally round as much as we can to help with any rehoming issues if the worst happens.

The remaining two bunnies - a lovely Mum and Daughter pair will be going to the RSPCA Foster Mum Heather tomorrow night - but they are both doing well.

Pickies of Zac coming sooooooooooon.

Having clipped Mr Big Rabbits claws I think he may well be much younger than 18 months. Perhaps his bits just hadn't come down because of his age when the man examined him. I think claws are quite a good indication of age, and his were easy to cut, not thickened at all, which in a big boy like him I was quite surprised about. I suspect the big rabbits may mature later than usual too. Claws are another reason I think Coco (Now Acorn) is quite young, and Winnie several years old at least.

The two boys are booked in to have their bits removed on Friday. We will have to see how things go with Winnie.

I am not angry at Marie or anything, I am still pleased to have the rabbits. Although I am somewhat anxious at the thought of a significant number of extras arriving. I find it difficult to let rabbits go, as my rabbit napping shows. Marie obviously has more to worry about if he was in with a group.

Could someone ask Marie if she knows Winnie's (big boys girlfriend) history? Is my estimate of around 3 years old consistant with what she knows?

Lany - my rabbit napping was contagious was it??? I am surprised you are not napping the pair as well. You seemed well taken with them :)

I will give maire a call and ask about winnie for you, we never get much info on age as many come in as strays etc. I don't know where she came from but I will ask for you :D . Marie has seperated the other girlies which were with Nelson just incase, and says sorry once again. Bless her I keep telling her no one is accusing her of anything or saying any bad things and tell her not to worry.

I will let you know what she says about winnie

Hiya Bunny Clan -

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v424/bunnytales/fosterpics1.jpg

This is Mum and Daughter! - Awwwwwwwwwwww - These two lovelies were part of the rescue bunny bunch on Saturday - Daughter suspected to be just 4 months old - they are both lovely bunnies and very inquisitive.
Tomorrow they go for Fostering by the Worcester Branch of the RSPCA - If any one is interested in these two lovely girlies just give me a yell and I can pass on your details to their new foster mum from tomorrow - I can hardly bare to part with them!!

Tams - did you manage to get me Andrea's email - no panic but I'll send her a copy of this pickie for her to post on RSPCA web site - if you want me to phone her just let me know.

Me off to have some fun with Zac    - Pickie coming soon folks :!:

Zac is doing really well - lovely this evening and starting to feel his feet - he came up to greet me when I came home - nothing to do with having his tea of course - I'm just about to bring him out for his evening romp!! - and to try and have a peek a boo to see if he bits are intact or if he need neutering - If you hear a scuffle!!! :? You'll know I've got him the wrong way up

He is still down in Plymouth :( .

Havn't seen a pic of him,he's black and white 12-18m old

He's coming up with another girl bunny but waiting to see if she's pregnant.
Wont know till the 10th tho, so if they do come up on the 11th I may have to wait till the weekend as no one I've asked wants to take me to pick him up after work  !!....but if she is pregnant..... then it will be a longer wait.

The odd thing is as Siobhan said the whole reason he was rehomed was that he was a neutered male and no good for breeding!! Maybe he can retract his bits at will :? Tam

Just to let you know my boy is definately Entire! - Zac went to the Vets for his Myxi last night and although I was pretty sure I did ask the Vets to have a peek to confirm and yep - he's definately all in tact

No probs to me though - we love the Bunster anyhow  - funny as he is so laid back and doesn't squirt or spray at all which is why I thought he was probably already neutered - such a laid back bunster.

Zac will have his VHD in a short while and then after a short time - He's peanuts will be retracted indefinately :!: :!:   - I'm sure Deborah my Vet will be very gentle with him though - ouch :!:

I promise Pickies over the weekend - as I'll have plenty of time and daylight to get a posy one of him for you all.

Right Winnie came in with her sister as they were living in a tiny hutch full of rotten food, They were never let out and on one was caring for them. Winnie's sister had already found a home :) . She is between 2-3 yrs.

Thanks for getting back to me Siobvan.

Poor bunny girl. I'll do my best to make it up to her. She has had a good run and lots of cuddles today while the boys were at the vet getting castrated. She is living in two Ferplast 100 cages wired together with a big nest box just in case  The head height isn't as good as it could be, she is a big girl, but until I know if she is preggers I have to keep her separate. I have also changed her name :? She is Clover now, and big fella is Strawberry, this fits with our Watership Down theme...

The boys (now called Acorn and Strawberry) are eating and hopping about, so I am much happier now. They weren't done until late as the vets had lots of emergencies come in and poor Strawberry was still staggering when I collected him. Two different vets did them at the same time in the end. Acorn got gas and so recovered very quickly but poor Strawberry got the injectible stuff instead :( It took him ages to find his feet. I just sat with him in my arms for hours until he was able to support himself, but he is up and about now and has scoffed a grated carrot and some hay and a few pellets, and two bowls of water, has peed and pooped and explored the bathroom where he is spending the night so I am no longer as concerned. Acorn ate almost immediatly and scampered about the floor buzzing as if nothing had been done to him after only a couple of hours! What a contrast. I am not happy that they did not use gas for Strawberry. It is what they have always used on my rabbits in the past. The only plus is that I was able to demat Strawberry's tail while he was unable to stop me. I think trying that with him full of his usual beans would have resulted in me badly scratched and his tail still full of mats. He has the most amazing fluffy fur. Really deep and wooly. None of my others have fur like that. Not a chance of him getting cold at least :P

catching up a bit here.

glad everything went well for all these bunnies and well done to every one involved. still very confused who nicked who's buns but at least things went well.

Doorkeeper, How are things today? are there any signs of motherhood for winnie or is it still early days to be able to tell. What ever the outcome, at least they have got you and your lads to care, love and rely on, what more could they ask for. I love your big guy, what a hunk

The boys don't seem to realise that anything was done to them. Their stiches are intact and they are eating well.

I had a bit of a scare the other day when there was a big pile of Clover coloured fluff on the shed floor. I had horrible visions of her having the babies in a hidden corner and the others finding them and digging them out. Then I rembered all the Thistle fluff I brushed out of him a couple of weeks ago, and realised it wasn't hers after all. That is when I set her up with a nest box, but she has shown no sign of using it for nest buiding. There are three weeks to go until I can give the all clear though.

Sad news. :(
Sadly Clover gave birth to one baby last Friday, but she didn't manage to either get it into the lovely nest she had made or clean its little face to enable it to breathe:(:(:( We would so have loved that little bunny, it could have stayed with it's parents as a family unit. My ys was very very upset too.

We also lost one of our house guineas, Bertha Fuzz Pig, this week :( And our gerbils appear to be on their last legs :( Not a happy week :(

Strawberry is very glad to have his girl back though
I wonder if he has more offspring from the other girls he lives with? If so I would like to give one of his daughters a home when she can leave her Mum. I do hope Marie hasn't been overrun. The frenchies were possibly pregnant too weren't they?

Poor Clover, poor you and sons, I thought it must have been close, i am really sorry to hear this :( and your little piggie as well :( You are having a bad time lately :(

How old are your gerbils. I used to keep gerbils as a child, one of mine called scampy lived until he was 7 years but did have it rough in the end :(

Why dont you give Siohban and email to see if Marie's buns have had babies

The gerbils are 3; I thought that was quite old for a gerbil. I had no idea they could live to 7!

Silkie had a seizure the other day, although she seems fine again now. And Silvie has become abnormally round and is panting alot. I suspect a tumour:( She has been squeaking alot when Silkie grooms her too. I examined her and there is no sign that it is an abcess - she had one before, bigger than her head, and surprised the vet by recovering.

7 is really good, my mum took him to the vets who were amazed. I rescued him off a school friend who had had him for 3 years, I had him for a further 4 years. He had a 3 foot fish tank full to the brim with pure saw dust, the tunnels he used to dig were just out of this world. Looking back now the tunnels were just like a rabbit warren would look like.

Are you sure she has'nt just bumped herself, they can certainly be fiesty little critters and can jump for Britain. Bet you get through lots of toilet rolls

I hope its not a tumour :(
