Bald Patches

Last night I notices 2 bald patches under Harveys ears. They are about the size of a penny. The skin is a nice pink colour and it does not look sore. Also it does not seem to bother him

All my rabbits have recently been treated for mites but the signs of this were clumps of fur coming out on their backs.

Any ideas?

Is Harvey a lop by any chance? If so I think what you talking about is normal, if he's uppy eared Im not so sure. Where abouts are the bald patches, at the base of the ear? To be honest as the skin is pink with no sign of irratation I wouldn't worry about it.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Harvey is an inbetweenie, his ears are somewhere in the middle of up and down.

The patches are at the side of his face directly under his ears. They seem to be getting bigger!

I hope it is nothing to worry about.

I have an appointment at the vet tomorrow with one of my other little ones so I think I might sneek him in with me.

Thanks again
Rachel

Hmmm does sound a bit strange, hope you can sneak him in with you! If not can you try taking a pic of how it looks?

I took Harvey to the vet. The vet said that some of his ears looks and feels rough. He thinks the bald patches are because the problem has caused the skin and hair to become brittle and because Harveys ears are moving alot the hair has fallen out in the most active areas.

He looked at some skin scrapings under the microscope but could see no mites. He then set up a culture to ensure he does not have ringworm (!).

We have some antifungal/antiflamatory cream to apply to his ears daily until we get the results back.

Evo's fur is a lot thinner under his ears. I think, like your vet said, its just because there's a lot of movement and rubbing there.
