Some happy photos - the big kitchen move!

Monty's Human

Alpha Buck
So, following recent shenanigans, I thought I'd share some happy photos! Both bunnies need to be groomed daily at the moment (Ossie's in moult and Monty's just an awkward ball of fluff) so we had them up on the sofa to share the experience and get some time "together".

We are now just trying to summon up the resolution to take them back to the bathroom. They're flumped down next to each other between us, my partner's dozing at the other end of the sofa, Monty's fallen asleep leaning against Ossie's shoulder, and it's so adorable it's really hard to want to move...

ETA: See, how can I possibly find the heart to disturb this?

That last photo is exquisite!

I hope this is the way forward for you all now :D

I was very lucky bonding my bridge pair.We had Rio two year old neutered buck, then my niece bought an otter blue mini lop female baby.I read up on bonding and we had the "perfect" match.Rio was laid back and Cleo the girl wasn't dominant at all.First time meeting in the neutral hall, she laid down her head to him,he wad unsure and chased a bit,no aggression just curiosity I felt .I did have a large towel handy and a water gun just in case .They ended up loved up cuddle buns.

Day 1 in the kitchen. At first we weren't sure:

Then we saw an upside to this new space:

We think we could be quite happy here!

(We are very politely ignoring the Incident when I turned the kettle on and Monty bolted behind Ossie so hard his face was buried in her side, and he was just a quivering ball of fluff going "No Monty here!" He did try and reassert his bravado when the kettle stopped, bless him.)

Ossie's little face squidged against Monty's looks exquisitely cute

That's not new urine on Ossie, is it?

No, thankfully! As far as I can tell, he stopped weeing on Ossie (at least deliberately) when they moved back into the bathroom. Some of the earlier stains I also think were accidental - he's quite fluffy around the bum, so at least some of it I think is just innocent transfer. But definitely no spraying on her in the last few days! And he's stopped climbing on top of her and started sitting next to her, which is civilised of him :D The only thing now is that they aren't grooming each other. I've tried the jam trick a couple of times and just ended up with jam all over myself. Hopefully they'll pick up how to do it soon!

Thanks daphnephoebe! Seems to be going fairly well so far! Both are utterly terrified of some of the noises/smells in the kitchen, but they're being terrified together, which is a step in the right direction :D

Sometimes grooming takes a long long time to come. I had a bachelor and when he was paired up with a widow, he took all the grooms from her but gave none himself for many many months (can sometimes be years!). You see, not all rabbits have learned rabbit etiquette, and haven't been socialised with other rabbits.

I had a rabbit - Max actually  - who when I stroked him would only let me do it for a short period of time before he turned and began grooming me :) He had always lived alone, and was a cruelty case from a hoarder. But we happened to fall in love

I would be happy with bonded rabbits who didn't groom, or where only one of them did. Sometimes one will give tiny little licks (usually when cleaning themselves) and the other rabbit will encourage this by putting their head down ready. In time this often works, and their head gets groomed accidentally by the other rabbit, and so it begins .........

Me too Lily! Thank you :)

This is heartening to hear! They are both doing the head down asking to be groomed, but so far neither has actually thought to groom the other and see if that doesn't win them some love and affection. I think what got us was when we had them up on the sofa - Monty settled himself in partner's lap and got down quite happily to grooming partner. All to a chorus of us going "No, Ossie! You groom Ossie now!" And meanwhile she was sat there looking all sad. Silly bunny! He has been observed to very occasionally lick her ears, though, so I am hoping that this might develop in time into a little bit of mutual affection. They have both come from homes with lots of other rabbits, so they should know what to do! Pests :D
