  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

i have two rabbits which we have had to separate because one of them broke their foot, i have notice that they have sore hocks but we are going to get them neutered and we are doing everything we can. Anyway when i was feeding them this morning i notice the one that broke his foot (Dec) has been wheezing and he wasn't as enthusiastic about his food as he normally is he has wheezed for a while and i am sure it has got worse what could it be should i take him to the vets?

Welcome to the forum abbs

Take him to the vet :)

A rabbit who doesn't eat, quite apart from the wheezing, will need seeing - and it's the weekend so you don't want to be stuck with the emergency vet if you can help it.

Some info on stasis here:

The vet can also sound his chest and see what's going on. Maybe prescribe an antibiotic.

Hello

I am sorry to hear of Dec's problems. I would definitely take him to the Vet today. The Vet should give him a thorough examination and depending on his/her findings prescribe appropriate medication. For example the 'wheezing' may indicate a Respiratory Tract Infection which would require treatment with an antibiotic. It is always best to seek Vet attention promptly for a Rabbit who is not keen on eating to try to prevent gut stasis - basically the GI tract stops working

You mention that both of your Rabbits have sore hocks, these links may be useful to take a look at
