Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Ear question

Pips ears have a discoloured brown patch that looks a bit dry. We are treating her for fur mites in case that's why she's pulling fur so she's already on ivermectin.

She does itch the Base of her ears a lot and her head. But the vets have said her ears are clean everytime.

Sorry not a great photo she doesn't like me going near it.

Is this just a dry ear or possible signs of ear mites starting? I'm sure they haven't looked like this before.

Have you/the Vet had a good feel around the base of her ears to see if there are any abnormal lumps ?

Has the Vet suggested any topical treatment for the 'dry skin' ?

Hi. Yes 2 vets have felt her ear bases and have been given the all OK.

The strange coloured skin has only appeared since I last went to the vets, so they havent seen it yet. Wanted to see what people thought it was first. Not sure I can afford another vet visit quite yet :-(

To be fair, it doesn't look like anything much to me.

I would keep an eye on it, but I have seen this discolouration often and it's turned into nothing :)

I couldn't find anything online to do with ear mites that looked similar. They all look crusty and she's definitely not crusty.

Will keep an eye on madam.

Yeah, what I've seen has been discoloration rather than crustiness, and I wouldn't treat for ear mites.
