Luna is a Netherland Dwarf .. neutered and shares her home with another Netherland Dwarf called Rufus.
One night, we had Luna in for a cuddle and when we went to put her back in her cage she just flopped down and appeared to lose the use of her back legs ...
We took her to the vets (non rabbit savvy) who thought it was an inner ear infection and prescribed Baytril and Panacur.
After a while Luna got to a stage where she had bad head tilt, a milky eye and was curled on the floor ... she was able to eat ok - this didn't seem to affect her eating.
The vet said she thought it was neurological and suggested we have her PTS.
My daughter googled and came up with a diagnosis of EC and we sent off for some Lapizole.
Unfortunately, my husband and I went on holiday to Greece ... during that time, we kept Luna and her partner at the time, Ben, in her room in a cage ... surrounded by pillows so she couldn't hurt herself when she had seizures.
Hollie also kept massaging and moving her back legs ... thankfully, Luna grew strong enough for Hollie to try her out in the run.
At first Luna ran in circles, but she eventually managed to used the side of the run to keep herself upright ..
I'm pleased to say that although she has a slight head tilt and is blind in one eye and sometimes runs in circles, she is as healthy as she can be. We use Lapizole regularly on both Luna and her new friend Rufus ...
I hope this post shows that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and the terrifying seizures that these rabbits show during EC, can be helped by surrounding them with cushions so they dont harm themselves.
