  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Jack isn't well again.

Jack has stopped eating again. He's booked in with our specialist vet on Monday for the dental he was going to get a few weeks ago (at the time he started eating again by himself). His poor tummy feels all round and gassy, and he's not been passing a great deal, but still drinking plenty. I've given him some loxicom for pain relief, zantac for gut motility, and have been giving critical care.

I'm at a bit of a loss for what else to do :( if he hasn't started eating by himself by the morning, I'll have to see if he can be admitted tomorrow, as I have to work and can't be syringe feeding CC every few hours. Don't know what else to do..

I'm sure lots of people will be along with advice. I'd be worried, though. Have you had him running? I used to chase Matthew about when he was like that, and sometimes it worked. I felt cruel doing it though.

You could try giving him some Infacol and some gentle tummy rubs to see if that helps. I probably wouldn't wait until the morning to see a vet though... have you got an emergency vet on hand?
Xx

You can do as Roxy suggests - Infacol and tummy rubs.

I would also take him in if he's in pain and not eating or pooping. You shouldn't be feeding CC until a blockage has been ruled out. Blood glucose and his temperature are things the vet will do and most of us can't do these at home.

I hope things go well for Jack x
