  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Stroke?

Izzy doesn't move her back legs as much as her front, I was told she had arthritis, but I thought her face was slightly dropped on one side. She's eating and toileting fine but struggling with things like jumping and tends to just slide down the ramp. Could it possibly be a small stroke?

I guess it's worth getting her checked over by a rabbit savvy vet, they'll know what to look for.

When I took her to the vet he just said arthritis, and couldn't see any problem with her face so I thought I was just over reacting but the other day my Mum said her face looked different and now I'm not so sure. I'll definitely take her back because even if she has just got arthritis I want to get her some metacam

We had a bunny at the rescue that had a funny turn and has a dropped face on one side, he was wobbly after the episode too, we had him tested for EC and he's negative, the vets thought maybe he'd had a seizure.

How good is your vet? Are they really good with rabbits, or do they just know the typical stuff? You know your rabbit best, and if you're not convinced by the diagnosis, it could be worth getting a second opinion.

I agree. Sometimes a vet will be ok with the routine stuff but a rabbit-savvy vet is invaluable for more complex issues.
