  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Advice

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice, I have a year old giant french lop named Poppy. Recently I've started to notice she hasn't ate her veg, nuggets or hay, she's drank very little and her character has changed. She's usually hyper and out going and quite a big eater. She's now very lazy and likes very little human contact although she always wanted attention and cuddles :( I don't want to jump to conclusions and take her to vets straight away incase it's because of the weather change as it's began to be quite hot here but it's just unusual for her to big like this. Do I take her to vets straight away? Or do I let her be for a few days and see if she perks up again. Hope someone can at least point me in the right direction. Thank you :) ps I have changed her food and still showing no sign of eating.

Welcome to RU. I;m sorry your bunny is unwell - she is gorgeous.

As prey animals rabbits hide illness & pain very well. Not eating is always a big deal with rabbits - yes I would take her to a vet straight away. The longer you leave a rabbit who won't eat the harder it can be for them to recover. It is life threatening. Please let us know how you get on. I hope the vet can help

Thank you for the reply, I'll ring my registered vet tomorrow and book an appointment straight away :)

Welcome Emilie

How's your bunny today?

How is she?
Hi thank you for asking no sign of any getting better, she's at the vets in the morning as they weren't free today. Hopefully we will get to the bottom of it tomorrow and treat it :) I'll keep use all updated after our appointment tomorrow

Hi emilie, aww bless her! Sending lots of vibes.

Is she eating anything at all? And passing any poop?

As if not, I think a vet visit is rather urgent as bunnies can go downhill very quickly! Xx

Hi thank you for the concern means alot :) she's at the vets now, they've took her in for a couple days to see if they can tube feed her and further investigate, if not then they're thinking of x-rays and sedation to see what's happening xx

Vibes for you and your bunny. I really hope the vet can help. I don't like it when my buns aren't with me at home.

Hope she improves!

I hate it when my bunnies have to stay in the vets, I'm literally phoning every 3 hours to see how they are! On e was in for 3 days once and I hated it! But it is the best place for them
