Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Red urine

Hi :)
My rabbits urine is a red colour and I don't know whethere it is normal :?
They do get fed red bell peppers regularly.
They don't seem to drink a lot- but they do get fed cucumber and romaine lettuce twice a day so I don't think they're dehydrated.
Does anyone know if this is normal?
Thanks :)

Red urine often occurs in Rabbits due to plant pigments in their diet. Dandelion leaves can cause very dark red urine.

Hi there

It's usually completely normal. Very rarely it's blood, but it's much more likely to be due to the pigments in plants. Bell peppers I have found don't cause red wee, but dandelions and some other veggies definitely do!

Worry not :D
