Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Scar tissue or brewing infection?

Hello,

Can anyone tell me if this looks like an infection brewing, or scar tissue?

It's quite dark, with a grey area and a little puffy.

The skin is extremely inflamed and infection is a possibility. Personally I would want a Rabbit Savvy Vet to take a look as it's impossible to say for certain that there is no infection just from looking at a photo.

Is your Rabbit on any non steroidal anti-inflamatory analgesia ? The hock will be very painful. I hope that the Vet can help x

Yeah we're on meloxaid/metacam twice a day at the moment. I'm trying to get in to see the vet as soon as possible, and will try and get hold of some anti-biotics from the vet in the meantime. Thank you

Sore hocks can be a secondary symptom of another mobility problem. Hopefully the Vet will attempt to establish if there is a separate primary problem going on as obviously if there is that would need attention too.
