  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

What do female rabbits need

hi

all rabbits need to be vacinated against myxi and VHD and a female spayed to stop her getting cancer later on and also to stop (if pair with male) unnecessary litters.

Spaying I would say is a must. An unspayed doe is not only a nightmare to live with, but she'll also have an increased risk of uterine cancer. You should aim to spay at about 6 months of age, if your bunny is getting aggressive and moody a bit before that then you still might be able to have her spayed if she's grown and healthy.

She'll also need to be vaccinated against myxomatosis and VHD. Not sure, but I think the minimum age for those is about 12 weeks.

Thanks everyone for your help, im really worrying that i dont know enough. as soon as i get her im going to book an oppointment with the vet to get the nesessery stuff done. 8)

Totally agree with Bertie

If you think females are bad you've never met Casey. Little s*d sprays, trashes things, the works. So yes males need doing too.

Don't worry about asking questions, we all have/had to learn sometime. Just keep on learning.
