Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Stringy poo? UD now gi stasis

Bailey since his prolapse last Thursday has had stringy poo, do you think this is due to the increase in grass and lack of hay in his diet?

It looks like grass that hasn't been grinded up properly

When you say stringy poo, do you mean that the strings are within each poo or stringing poos together? If the latter, this is usually due to a rabbit moulting and ingesting the fur.

It's probably due to Bailey having eaten his hair whilst cleaning himself. Grass and hay would be digested through the system. It's a good idea for him to eat as much hay and grass as possible to keep the hair moving through his gut. And well hydrated - water and wet leafy greens :)

He's not moulting, I've been pulling th poos apart and it looks like a long strand of grass, some are strung together and others just have a little tail, like tadpoles

I didn't suggest he was moulting. You may be right, and it's grass ....

I've woken up and he's sitting in the corner straining, I've phoned the vet and they said brung him in during surgery hours which is over an hour away, I think he may need to be pts as its the second time it's happened and he's in a lot of pain

I'm hopeful the vet can help by giving him some gut motility drugs & pain relief. I have a very hairy bunny Boo who has moults that take forever, she often does stringy poo as you've described. I can reduce but not eliminate this with lots of grooming & brambles. Vibes for your bunny

Topping up the vibes for your bunny. The key is to get him to the vets asap and they will help him out. Please do not think this is the end, if you are confident in your vet they will give him some pain relief and other meds like Joey&boo says. They may wish to admit him depending on how he is.

Thank you for the good vibes, he's been admitted for fluids, pain relief, syringe feeding and motility drugs, his gut had stopped moving when we took him to the vet, if he's eating tomorrow they will do his teeth as they think that's what caused this second bout of stasis

I know its scary, but he's in the best place and the vets are right to admit him. Really hope he starts to improve soon xx

Hopefully he will respond well to treatment. The Vets sound to be very on the ball xx

I'm so worried about him, I only got him the end of January! And the poor thing had horrible urine burn and couldn't move! He improved so much!
