Yesterday I came downtairs and found watery diarrhea everywhere, when I say watery I mean may as well have been pee.. So I took her straight to vets after cleaning her underside with was a mess

Its the weekend and bank holiday so wasnt my usual rabbit savvy vet

She gave me fibaplex, gave gut stimulant, everything I needed if she stopped eating, she had metacam as she was grinding her teeth a lot, unsure about pain

Got home... all day and night.. No problems, shes eating and pooping ok, a little fur in a poop but otherwise fine, she is moulting..

Until 4am last night she was fine.. Missus comes down at 8am.. Theres these stains everywhere and parts of cecas with it...

Ive come down at 12 and had a look around.. Its on the bed, the rug all over.. She seems perfectly fine....

Her diet is hay and the odd SS pellet, shes new from the RSPCA, history of diarrhea and poor diet

So.. I am asking, anyone know what it means to have this watery muck with cecas? Seen it before? No matter how much I try research it nothing comes up.. Its either uneaten cecas or full on diarrhea

Thanks and pics below of todays messes

Does she ever pass strange large oval shaped fecal poo ?

If she has no pellets at all does she still have these episodes of 'diarrhoea ?

Yes sometimes they can be oval, not many, ive probably seen 10 like that in the almost 2 weeks..

In the first week they had.. maybe 2 pellets total.. No problems until she came into the kitchen the night before.. She had a tiny bit of banana with panacur which I thought may have caused it,,, never again!...

But pellet wise.. The missus gave them both a small handful each yesterday early morning, hours before I came down and noticed all the muck everywhere

I havent given a pellet since that, too cautious

The vet we saw mentioned that we might end up needing some of the protexin range, same range as the fibreplex shes currently on, as an ongoing suppport for her...

thoughts?

I remember using the powder for Muffy... But that was 10 years ago and she was an old bunny

The symptoms you describe are very similar to those of one of my Rabbits. He cannot tolerate any pelleted feed at all, just one or two pellets and he produces copious amounts of liquid fecal matter.

If you observe Bea's abdomen when she is at rest can you see anything like this happening, note the exaggerated peristaltic waves of the intestines

Omg.. I think I can.. That was really eye trippy.. Ill try video it to be sure. I could just be tripping lol

Yep, that's it !!

I would speak with your Vet but I think if you keep her on a pellet free diet you will find that the 'diarrhoea' episodes stop. She will need a wide variety of hays and also a variety of dried and fresh forages. My Rabbit (Lord Herbert) is fine with fresh herbs too. He can also have some types of fresh Veg including Greens, Broccoli, Kale, Spinach, Carrot tops and a bit of carrot skin, an occasional small piece of apple. For Lord H it is the pellets (any brand, even fibafirst sticks) that set him off.

Recently I have found that he can cope with Dengie Horse Feed grass pellets

I cant say for certain and my opinion is not based on me having any qualifications in Veterinary medicine, but I think Bea may well have a similar digestive problem to Lord H.

Our rabbit savvy vet is back tomorrow so I will make an appointment with her, I already need to speak to her about something for Beas waxy ear anyway so planned to go in before this happened. Going to put a stop to the pellets and see how that goes until get things settled and figure out what the problem is

PS Lord H has Avipro Plus daily too, as advised by an Exotics Specialist Vet

Hi Shayne

Really sorry to hear about Queen Bea ...

The protexin range is very good, and I particularly recommend the Bio Lapis :D

I hope your vet manages to reach a diagnosis and can help her soon x

Trying to work out the most cost effective ... Bio Lapsis or Avipro plus

60 days of bio lapsis is £45

1kg of Avipro plus is £45

Cant work out how long 1kg of Avipro would last as it says a scoop.. nothing specific

Anyone know?

I would pick bio lapsis as it looks the best but.. Struggling financially so I need to be careful

Say an average scoop is 20g - that'd be about 50 scoops (I think the maths is correct there). Hope this helps some way??

I have no doubt that Bio Lapis is a superior product, but if you need to save money, go for what you can afford

To be fair, rabbit specialists on the whole feel that probiotics and prebiotics are a waste of money anyway, as nothing survives the strong acid of a rabbit's stomach.

They won't do any harm, and make the water taste good, but in 25 years of looking after hundreds of rabbits, I personally wouldn't bother.

I'd go for the Avipro Plus every time. It is not a probiotic, but a Prebiotic and IME and that of a very well qualified Exotics Specialist Vet, Mark Rowland at Trinity Vets in Maidstone, it is of great benefit to Rabbits who have problems digesting dietary nutrients.

Avipro Plus works out to be a lot cheaper than Bio Lapis. The products are not the same, the later containing a PRObitic aswell which in Rabbits may not be of any benefit as PRObiotics are destroyed by the very acidic gastric enzymes. PREbiotics are not destroyed

Not so much muck around today but still some on the bunnies bed and some on her underside ive wiped her clean.

Ive got my vet calling later today (shes in surgery atm) and an appointment thursday at 5.15pmw with her

Other than that she seems her normal self, eating and everything fine I think. Keeping a close eye on her

Even though theres the liquid muck being left.. Theres no cecals.. She is eating them all so.. thats at least a big plus!

That's the best way for a Rabbit to maintain a healthy balance of gut flora :)

 Just watched her eat some cecatropes... OMG.. it stunk.. Enough to make me physically gag.. I thought it smelt before when wiping her.. but fresh as shes eating.. gawd.. awful.. And I have a strong stomach!
