  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hiro's hurt his leg :(

My o/h just got home from work and Hiro got really excited and jumped up on his table hide but he missed and fell off :( it's only around a foot high but now he's holding up his front left leg.
We've offered him some food and he is eating but the whole time he is lifting his foot up and down like he wants to keep it up in the air. I'm ringing the vets now.
Could it be broken?

Ok he is putting weight down on it a little and he's still eating like a pig. He's just been grooming Sylar too so I don't think it's that bad. He's also just been washing his face with it.
I'm not sure whether or not I should leave it an hour or two and restrict his space a bit and see how he is before taking him in. Vet visits stress him out so much and I'd hate to take him in if he's ok.

He may have just sprained it/bruised it. I'd see how he is in a couple of hours. Have you checked him over for any obvious signs of injury ? Hopefully it is just a minor sprain, sending vibes for him xx

Sending lots of vibes for Hiro's leg. I hope it's something that improves quickly by itself.

Oh I've seen this before - seems it's quite common and often just a sprain.

I would tend to watch and wait, and see how things go.
Ring vet and ask about giving Metacam but I suspect it will right itself in a day or so :)

Hope all is OK with your and your family otherwise Roxy? x

We decided to leave him be. We shut them in their room for the night to stop him from running around so much and he seems ok now :)

All is good at the moment thanks MM. Touch wood anyway!
