  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Good Vet SW London?

Dear All, having recently moved to SW6 London, can anyone please recommend a good rabbit savvy vet in this area? I've googled a few, just always trust word-of-mouth reviews the most.
Thank you.

My rabbit vet is in Twickenham but my chinchilla vet is in Sheen, 20 minutes from Fulham. We drive 40 minutes to get there.

They are expensive but absolutely excellent exotic vet specialist, very rabbit savvy.

Matthew Fiddes BVSc DZooMed MRCVS - RCVS Recognised Specialist in Zoo and Wildlife Medicine. Matthew graduated with distinction from Bristol University in 2004 and worked at a small animal / exotics referral centre in Hampshire before joining CJ Hall Vets in 2007. Matthew gained the RCVS Certificate in Zoological Medicine in 2009 and the RCVS Diploma in Zoological Medicine in 2013. In 2015 he was awarded RCVS Specialist Status in Zoo and Wildlife Medicine. This is the highest level of UK veterinary qualification and he is one of only 26 vets in the UK to hold this specialist status (out of approximately 25,000 UK vets). Matthew is the only exotic pet specialist vet in full-time private practice in London and the South East. This includes pets that people are often suprised vets call 'exotic' from rabbits and rodents through to birds, reptiles and fish. He took over the running of the surgery in 2011 where his passion is providing quality care to patients and clients alike. Day-to-day he sees the familiar faces of local cats and dogs to all manner of exotic pets that travel from across London & beyond. His published work includes peer reviewed papers in Companion Animal, research on the Poultry Red Mite and contributions to Parrots Magazine. He is the co-author of 'Anaesthesia of Exotic Pets' published in 2008. Matthew lectures undergraduate students and vet nurses on exotic animal topics - most recently on parrot behaviour and reptile husbandry. He is a member of the British Veterinary Zoological Society, the Association of Avian Veterinarians, the Fish Veterinary Society, the Association of Reptile & Amphibian Veterinarians and the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians.

My two recommendations are the same

C J Hall, link provided by BYB

Twickenham Vets, although not Exotics Specialists they see and treat hundreds of Rabbits, working closely with our local Rescue. The Vets are all very empathetic and if a particular case should exceed their specific range of knowledge they will always offer a referral to a Specialist xx
