Winston and Edith have stopped using the litter tray!

So Winston and Edith used to be great at using their litter tray, but recently they only use it for wees and they poo all over the floor! It used to be just a few poos near their hay feeders, but now they just poo anywhere. Their poos haven't changed so I don't think it's health related. They have a hooded cat litter tray with wood pellet litter and hay. They also have 2 hay feeders outside of the litter tray because the litter tray hay isn't enough. They've had this set up for almost 2 years and it's never caused any issues.

Originally when we got Edith I did try using a larger litter tray, one of those large storage boxes, but Edith likes to kick the litter so it just went everywhere.

What i've done this evening is take the door off their hooded litter tray (hopefully Edith won't kick litter out front ways!) and put more hay in it to make it more cosy.

But has anyone got any suggestions as to why they may have lost their litter tray habbits? And what I can do to resolve it?

Have there been any changes in the home, apart from the change in litter tray? You could try sweeping the poops up and putting them in the tray, that might encourage them:thumb:

There have been no changes in the home at all. I've been sweeping poos and putting them in the llitter tray like there's no tomorrow! The litter tray hasn't changed, they've used the same one for 2 years.

However, there has been an improvement now i've put more hay in and the door has been taken off, so i'm hoping this is a permanent improvement!

Do you think it could possibly be Edith more so that Winston?

Only because my girl is being a complete pain in the rear at the moment, digging at the litter tray and basically pooping wherever she feels like it, then I have noticed bailey is then starting to drop odd ones in the same places, so maybe it could be abit to do with hormones? and therefore a bit of spring fever??

I don't really know but Doughnut has been tiddling in different places and didn't seem unwell initially then her digestion issues returned. My specialist thought a UTI was brewing so she had antibiotics, in a few days she was back into her litter tray. She had been tiddling for about 2 weeks out of her litter tray before she showed any signs of any other issues.

Since I only have one I can't comment on if it's to do with hormones. Hope they start going in the right places soon!

It's interesting you say that because i've been convinced it's Winston! Yesterday I was in the kitchen and I literally watched Winston sitting in the middle of the floor pooing! He also does it more over by the hay feeders than Edith too. However it has only been recently so could be spring fever and Edith just happens to do it when we aren't watching.

Ah interesting, there's been no wees outside the litter tray, apart from 2 on one of the hay feeders but I don't think they are related!
