Mini Lop Buck - How old was yours when he was neutered?

Hi everyone,

My rabbit Twitch (Doe) was neutered 2 weeks ago and has recovered very well she's 7 months old. We decided to get her a friend (Rocket) who is a Mini Lop. He's currently 11 weeks old, and is living in a cage beside hers. We have a room for them and they take turn coming out of their cage to play, and we've been feeding them together which has gone really well.

Bonding them slowly like this seem to be going nicely, she has stop trying to attack him in his cage after a few days and now she just sniffs him when he's inside his cage, and they completely ignore each other when they're side by side having their pellets.

I was wondering when you guys got your mini lop neutered? I've been looking around and I've had mixed feedback from googling. Some say 4 months, some say 12-14 weeks or as soon as their testicals drop.

I rang the vets that I took twitch to they said 6 months and he has to be a certain weight, my vets down the road said to bring him in so they can look at him before they decide?

I really want to bond them so they can enjoy each other's company, so was wondering roughly when did you guys get your guys done?? I don't want them to be completely bonded to each other only for his hormones to kick in and he starts mounting her constantly as I've read that this could lead to fights and serious injuries.

Sorry for the rant!

Thanks,
Mo

You could wait until he is 4 months old to give him chance of developing normally. I personally wouldn't neuter him earlier. A week after he has been neutered he can be bonded with your female, so that is 5 weeks to wait!

5 weeks! It seems so looooonnggg! I asked my local rescue to recommended me their vets that they normally take their bunnies to, they get them done at 4 months as well so yes 5 weeks it will be then. Thanks for getting back to me, really appreciate it.

In practice we always neutered as soon as testicles descend (around 16 weeks). If bun was particularly small we would postpone surgery.
