Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit has lumps near tail!

New Kit
Hi! I recently adopted a rabbit that the owner did not want anymore :(. The owner did not seem to treat it very well and it lived outside. I just found 3 lumps near (2 above and 1 below) the tail. At first I thought they might be old poop matted to the fur, but they seem to be under the skin. They do not bother her when I feel them. Any idea what they may be? I am taking her to a vet next week, but just wondering if anyone knows or has seen this?

The image you posted does not show up so it's hard to say what the lumps are. They could be abscesses, but that is pure speculation. I'd pop the Bunny to a Vet tomorrow to get him/her checked over. At least Bunny is now in a caring home and I am sure that he/ she will be much happier with you :)

Hi Katie and welcome to RU

Those lumps could be anything. My first thought was that they were caused by fur mites. Sometimes an excess of fur mites and 'dandruff' can cause lumpiness that seems unidentifiable to begin with.

Please take your rabbit to a vet and let us know how you get on :)
