On vet's advice .......

Surprising the variety of vet advice you get and don't get these days ...

Yesterday I went on a 5 hour round trip to visit a much loved rabbit specialist about some potentially serious health conditions. I was so glad I did, and all bases were properly covered. The vet was a 'Companion Care' in Pets@Home.

Today at the supermarket checkout I got talking to a young woman who keeps rabbits .. It turns out she used Pets@Home Companion Care vets (not the one I used - but I know where she went) and was told that her male could be put with her entire female 5 days after castration  The female subsequently had a litter and she is now keeping the one surviving baby.

As if there weren't enough baby rabbits being born into this world!!

it is never ending - change is painfully slow :(

Vibes for your bunny MM - I hope everything is ok ? xx

I was wondering whether to phone the branch and tactfully point out that males can remain fertile up to 4 weeks post castration!

I suppose you have to give the vet the benefit of the doubt, in the sense that there might have been a misunderstanding/confusion, rather than the vet not knowing this. It's not great, of course, but I do wonder exactly what was said.

Yes I take your point. But I asked her to tell me exactly what the vet said, and at the five day check up the vet apparently said "That's all good, you can put them together now!"

She was a lovely girl, we chatted for ages and she pulled a 'Bunny Mad' magazine out of her bag :D

it's so good when you find like minded people. I know people who love cats (I've also got cats) although perhaps not quite as much as me! but I've not met anyone who loves bunnies like me! I mean sure a few who have them but they don't appreciate them half as much as me etc

I was at the next checkout to her, and I heard the words I so often say ... "It's all for my rabbits". I was so taken by another rabbit lady that I forgot to collect my change and it was brought over to me

She said her friends think she's mad ... She was asking me loads of stuff and telling me what her buns looked like. So lovely

Ive never found anyone whos bunny mad either. Even my mum thinks ive lost the plot now having Bleu free range. It was a riot on christmas day lol.. She said i treat them like babies and they are spoilt, so i replied they are our babies and they are spoilt. All the friends of my kids love coming and stoking them all and i give them some dandelion salad to give them so they are relaxed around them, They now LOVE visiters

That's lovely W&S

I find bunny mad people in strange - well unexpected! - places. This time it was the supermarket.

A few months ago I was talking to someone who mentioned she had a house rabbit who did binkies. I immediately said 'Wow, she's talking my language!' It turns out she is a vicar who lives not too far from me :)

I always find children love coming round to see the rabbits. They are very gentle with them. I can just imagine your household being a riot on Christmas Day
