Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Cut skin

So MrC was giving Lagertha a hair cut and he has accidently nipped a bit of her skin. We've cleaned it of fluff and it's not bleeding at all but clearly some skin has come away. She is fine in herself, happily munching away, her teeth chattered a bit when we cleaned it but that's it, she's still running about like a mad thing. MrC is terribly worried and is really upset with himself. We're going to keep it clean, monitor her very closely etc but is there anything we can put on the cut to help it heal/prevent infection? Thanks in advance x

I wouldn't put anything on it. She should heal without issues :)

I can imagine he's beating himself up, but their skin is literally like tissue paper. The amount of times the clippers would nic the buns we were prepping for surgery.

Aw, hope MrC's ok, it's easily done. Back when Buffy got shaved at the vets (you might remember her previous owner neglected her) they nicked her a couple of times and it was absolutely fine she wasn't bothered.

You can tell MrC about the time my dh clipped our dd's fingernails when she was a baby and accidentally cut her finger and made it bleed. He was so upset with himself. She's 14 now btw x

Thank you for the reassuring words :) she's fine, eating well, her usual crazy self, the little wound has pretty much closed up now. MrC said that you for the help too :)

I know this issue has already been addressed, but I did the same thing to Mimzy a short while back. All I was doing was tugging loose fur from his backside and a huge gap opened in his skin! (Well it seemed huge to me although it was hardly half an inch if that.) It's astonishingly easy to tear and usually a pain to get to mend. I used a bit of manuka honey after cleaning the area well each night and it healed up in just a few days. :D

Awww yes I did this to Cookie (she needed a hand keeping her bottom clean) and I felt awful.

Don't fret xx
