I mumbled and groaned at my buns this morning - "do you know how lucky you silly creatures are - mummy is up at 5am feeding you ungrateful beasts" - and then I went outside! BRRRRRR!!!!

How on earth you do it in these temperatures I do not know - I guess that is love for you, and of course I would do it if I had to - but still...BRRRRRRRR!!!!!
 
Someone said a while ago, there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing. That was a man working down the tip! I really wrap up warm, my friend said I look like the abominable snowman, but as long as I can keep warm I'm ok. Keep popping inside for hot drinks. What fun!
 
It is very cold out there :lol: My rabbits just seize the opportunity of squeezing some extra sympathy out of me and begging for extra food :) They're still bouncing around outside the shed though :lol:
 
It's not so hard! I went out in minus temperatures in less clothing than I would usually (i.e. only two layers) last night and it wasn't so bad because there was no wind. Between the playhouse and the garage it's mostly indoors anyway! :lol: I don't live in a warm house either ;) Carrying forage back is about the worst bit when it's cold, whereas rain is worst for cleaning out litter trays!

Haha I think Doughnut thinks she's outside as she's always begging for food. I feel sorry for myself having to leave my lovely warm house to go to work while she stays indoors.

Respect to everyone who has outside bunnies though
 
I'm outside every morning, sometimes stupidly only in a thick dressing gown but in such a hurry to get out and check madam is okay, tends to be my first thought in the mornings!

It was however -6.5 in the garden, and -2.1 in her hutch :-o. Needless to say she was tearing around as usual, but her water bowl was partially frozen :-(.

I have five layers on, and I am in the house :lol:
 
Mine are in a really well insulated shed. I have just bought a small oil filled radiator which is on all the time, ready for my two guinea pigs. Makes being out there a lot nicer!

Would still rather have them all indoors though ...

Same here! We have a freezing cold old house so I'm used to being cold and wearing loads of layers! My bun is outside in the shed and sometimes I swear he is warmer out there than we are in the house (especially when the tumble dryer has been on in the shed!). You just harden up to the cold I think. It was a bit parky this morning though...
 
How else do you hear your hutches, if you don't have power access nearby? I've got four snuggles in the hutch, underneath the duvet to radiate up to bunny but I don't think it's enough!!

I don't miss having outdoor pets. The ferrets, rabbits & guinea pigs used to all be outside & apart from the ferrets, I'd spend the time outside socialising with them (ferrets came inside into my bedroom where there was more room to play).

It's definitely reminded me why I don't have outdoor buns now... I can't imagine trying to do the cleaning etc with my knees.

I never used snuggle safes etc when I had the outdoor small furries. Piggies would go into the greenhouse as they were 8yr old rescues & one had a history of chest infections (they lived to 11yrs). The bun just got loads of extra bedding to snuggle into & we'd cover the front of the cage with tarp at night to keep the draft out.

I don't really bother! :lol: With two of them, I don't even think about a snugglesafe until it's below 5°C, and half the time the little darlings move area to be where they want to be, which is not where the heat is :roll: We have three areas connected by tunnels and I only heat the playhouse, where the most hay and water and space is. When it gets to 0°C, I put a snugglesafe in their carrier with lots of hay. At -5°C they get two snugglesafes in the carrier :) Playhouse windows have perspex covers (the original windows) except two which we don't bother covering as they don't seem to care, although if it got really cold for an extended period or snow was coming that way, we would, and we might even hang a piece of carpet over the front if it got proper bitter. It's an insulated 4'x4' affair :)
 
Ha, yeah I was so cold last night at last check! they were fine though :lol:

Then my husband does the mornings ha ha
 
Today it's in the 80s so very nice weather especially for the end of November, but I'm dreading when we start getting windy cold nights mainly because I worry about my ducks. I reckon they can deal with the cold alright but the wind is the bad part..I'll probably have to tarp the entire aviary which is really a pain.

I admire you guys in the UK - I couldn't deal with cold day after cold day! I need the heat and sun. I don't even like to wear long sleeves/pants for several consecutive days (particularly not when I'm running around taking care of the pets!), much less having to wear layers of clothes all the time...*shudders* :lol:

I have on thick trousers, long sleeved top, short sleeved top, fleece & gloves :lol:

About 25F (-3C), but it pretty much never gets lower than about 30F (-1C). So while it gets cold sometimes, daytime is always warmer and we get warm days mixed with cold days so if it's all cold out I can at least be like 'well, it's nice for a change, and on Friday it'll be warm again'.

I don't mind your kind of layering when I'm walking my dog, but in general it really makes me uncomfortable and I sometimes even cringe inside when reading about it lol. I wonder if there's a named phobia for being afraid of layering your clothes :lol: I think it's the lack of freedom/mobility and feeling of being all bogged down, plus that awful feeling of the little places where your clothes are scrunched up inside each other. Reminds me of when I was really little and my socks would be slightly wrinkled up inside my shoes, bleurgh :lol:
 
It was really cold cleaning them out today, lots of bowls had ice in them, but it was not as bad as a few years ago. Chipping frozen rabbit wee out of a hutch is not fun!! I really hope it doesn't get that bad this year:( Fingerless gloves are a lifesaver as you can't work properly with ones with fingers. But they do get rather revolting after cleaning out a big batch of hutches. The rabbits actually seem happier with the temperature just below zero as it isn't so soggy. There was lots of arguing and digging going on today. Very lively rabbits.
 
This is my first winter with outside and im going out like an eskimo. I warm the snugglesafes up at 10pm so they stay warm most the night and im shivering from head to toe when i come back in. I picked pixie up because she snuck out the avery and i couldnt believe how warm she was. When i stoke them they feel ice cold but under all that fur they are little heaters. I feel a bit better at them being outside now.
