hi,
im glad they had stoped selling them now as there were lots of stuff being sed about focus and the way they treat there livestock
to me its a diy store not a pet shop

Well, I have to say that that is really a good news story!!
I am not against pet stores selling rabbits if the conditions and training are right. Few "specialised" "Pet" chain stores qualify for that let alone a DIY chain that has problems training and educating it's own staff in it's core business let alone simple business basics - best you not get me to go there.............
IMO!
I can only speak from experience, but the staff at the stores have to provide a wealth of information across such a broad cross section of specialities, Woodworking, Roofing, Plumbing, Gardening, Electrics,... the list goes on.... and then you introduce keeping live animals which even specialist stores struggle to cope with!!
Not a good business case and I hope the people that recommended this venture get cencored accordingly

I think the reason a lot of people who have had anything to do with Rescue rabbit's are against Pet Shop's selling Rabbit's is that Pet Shop's feed the rescue population.
Breeder's feed the Pet Shop's and at the end of it all when the owner get's bored/and or find's out how much Rabbit's cost to keep and there not suitable Pet's for children these Rabbit's get dumped, handed into Rescue's, given away free to good home's, the list is endless and its all adding to the 30,000 plus population of Rabbit's in Rescue's.
It's a vicous circle.

There is definitely a problem that needs to be addressed concerning the 'backyard breeders' who sell purely for profit to pet shops, large numbers of rabbits maybe bred cheaply to fuel the pet market, to people who maybe little educated in their care, this issue must definitely be addressed. I think we do need to ensure an understanding about the difference between the 'dealing' in rabbits and the 'breeding' for show.
Bad and irresponsible pet shops certainly don't help to fuel the situation, but rabbits end up in rescue from other sources as well. lets not pass the blame complete onto one source. I am interviewing the Manager of Pets At Home next week in my role as Outreach Officer for the RWA, so that should be interesting and also really useful, think I may say something about 'starter kits'......
