Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Failure to gain weight - worms?

FloLo

Alpha Buck
Hi all,

Flo is fairly healthy now and her breathing seems ok again.
However she is failing to gain weight! She is a little on the thin side, at about 2.1kgs but she used to be in the 2.3-2.5kgs range. I've been feeding her a teaspoon of oats daily but still no weight gain.

I found a little white thing on a poop and I think it was a worm. Can worms cause weight loss? Shall I give her panacur?

Ta :)

I think worms on rabbit poo are really common but only visible for a moment as they dry out really quickly. I would try panacur anyway though.

Its good she is otherwise doing well, always nice to hear

If you want to give her some Panacur I believe you only need to give a 9 day course, not 28 as for EC. This is what the Vet once told me. xx

I would get the vet to do a faecal float and find out what's going on. Obviously you can give Panacur for 9 days for pinworms but there may be something more? Coccidia?

How did you get on with the echinacea?
