Poops after surgery

Morning everyone,

Chester was neutered yesterday.

He came home yesterday evening. He's got a fantastic appetite. I've seen him drink and he's peed.

My only concern are his poops. They are quite small and I think his belly feels quite solid.

Is this normal post surgery? If not, how long should I leave it before contacting the vet?

Thank you!

Gut motility can be reduced post GA, small poo being one 'symptom'. As long as he has some ongoing output and he keeps eating and drinking his GI tract motility should greatly improve over the next 24 hours. Encourage him to have a good water intake aswell as a good hay/grass intake. Fluids and fibre are what will help improve his gut motility. You could call the Vet this morning to appraise them of the situation and seek their advice as to whether any further intervention is required at this stage. As he has a good appetite I suspect his GI tract will return to normal quite soon xx

Hi Emmy

If only our rabbits would stop worrying us to bits

If he's drinking and peeing and you say he is .. and he has a fantastic appetite and there are poos but they are small .. then at the moment he's OK :D

The poos will be small cos he will have had a period of not eating, and also it's the long strand fibre that they munch on that makes the poos lovely and big.

I would call the vet and tell them about the small poos if you're worried, otherwise leave it 24 hours and see how things improve. It being the weekend - maybe ring them before lunchtime today, if they close (like my vet :D)

Good luck xx
