Bonded littermates and spaying

New Kit
Hi,

I'm new the forum and am also a new mummy to gorgeous frenchies - Wilma and Rose. I brought these lovely bunnies home at the start of September and so far all well. Apart from this morning. I went to clean the girls and found fur all over the rabbit house and spots of blood. When I have looked closer I have found one of the girls with a chunk out of her ear. It's a clean cut and I have bathed it with warm salt water. They are 14 weeks old and as of yet not spayed. The breeder told me they could get to six months and be spayed, however after today's antics I am wondering if this can be done earlier and also would you guys recommend them being kept separate?

Any advice would be great!

Thanks
Alison

Hi Alison and welcome to the Forum

Yes, French Lops would usually be spayed around 6 months. Bigger rabbits mature more slowly, and so rather than the usual 4/5 months, it's often a bit more.

Have you spoken with your vet about spaying? You could ask when you get their vaccinations done :)

If they are fighting, you will have to separate. What space do they have between them at the moment? Two girls is probably the most fragile of relationships, so best separate and perhaps try rebonding once they have been spayed (and recovered - about 4 weeks).

best of luck xx

Sorry your girls have had a fight. 14 weeks is the age brothers sometimes fight, so I would check if you can to make sure that they are girls.

Have they got enough room ? My French lop is already much bigger in size than my sisters Holland lops.
