  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Runny eye

Hi sorry another question if anyone can help! Miffy has one watery eye. I noticed it was a bit wet a couple of days ago but thought she'd just wet it when drinking. Do you think this could be something to do with her spay? Should I make an apt at the vets? I've given it a wipe with a cotton pad and cooled boiled water.

Spaying is an assault on the immune system, and sometimes (as with humans) this will bring out little things out of the blue. What you're doing is fine - if it turns to white discharge, doesn't clear up or gets worse, then call your vet or take her in.

Hopefully it should clear itself up when she gets stronger x

Is the discharge clear or is it creamy coloured ? Bathing it with cooled boiled water is a good idea. If the eye continues to water it would be a good idea to get the Vet to take a look. Sometimes a Rabbit can have a mild reaction to the eye lubricant used when a GA is given and this can lead to some inflammation/runny eye(s)
